Method of payment for staff travel (non-rev)
It appears that what is being addressed is not whether staff travel and/or upgrade(s) is/are paid for in advance of travel.
What is being explored is the manner in which staff travel will be paid for after travel is complete (never before travel), either by payroll deduction or other electronic means.
Payroll deduction of staff travel (after travel is complete) for LAA seems to have been working quite well for the past umpteen years—why change it now?
Why change a system that has worked for years. The only reason I see to change is that the company gets to hold on to your money and get the interest until they decide to give you a requested refund. Some will just leave the funds for future travel. A win for the company, a loss for the non rev traveler.
AGAIN... WHY CHANGE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKEN! it seems like all they want is our money. WHY THE HECK ARE WE GOING TO PAY FOR SOME THING THAT WE DON'T KNOW IF WE'RE GOING TO GET?????? And how about if we pay for first and then get bumped to coach at the last minute? Or worse... we pay for a flight to Asia or Europe and at the last minute we get bumped off the flight? How much more do we have to endure? PLEASE STOP!
It has been efficient way of handling and processing charges for years. Why must we change a system that works?

Why should we have to pay up front first.....then, the flight is full we decide to run over to another airline to get on their flight that is wide open......now we have to fight for the return of our money that is due to us.....as well as being a commuter how would that work, we list for coach, all the seats are full in coach, only thing the agent can accommodate us is First Class, but what do we do, we did not purchase a First Class seat......does this mean we will not get on the flight. Wow, who in there right mind is making these decisions? Obviously.......no one at American Airlines......little by little, this airline is losing its class and the respect that the general public had for and stood for the airline.
