Allow Walkers & Bike Riders to Enable Use of Pedestrian Gate in the Morning

The principal called me and met me at the pedestrian gate in the morning right after I dropped my kids off at school. She said she didn't want me to feel ignored, that she was listening. She showed me that when the gate is FULLY OPEN like it is in the morning, the pedestrian gate gets blocked. I said I checked it the other day - on weekends, when the car gate is open, the pedestrian gate is accessible. We talked past 8 - she wanted to see the gate for herself. Then it clicked - on weekends, the car gate is ALMOST fully opened just to the point it doesn't block the pedestrian gate... so the pedestrian gate is NOT accessible on weekday mornings because the car gate is fully open. Also, she told me that she was thinking of closing the kindergarten hallway door and not allowing ANYONE anymore on that side. I said that would actually make it fair for everyone because every other side of the school has an open door / access... and how it's still not fair how walkers and bike riders have no access on this side and just car riders. And I mentioned again adding another bike rack and how someone after school lets a kid through the pedestrian gate so he can grab his bike and go to the other side of the school. She said it's a great idea - it's just budget and construction, etc. She says there aren't enough students to have a staff member open and close the door for kids in the morning. I reiterated how many houses and kids there are though that live on this side. She said she agreed there are. I told her the whole process we do in the morning now, dragging the kids bikes back to the bike rack after dropping them off at the front of the school. She said she noticed I sent the email to the superintendent too and that we'll see what she says. Basically, if they close all access on this side of the school, then I'm fine. I just don't like how only certain kids can go through that open door right now. I never heard from the superintendent.

So in conclusion, I've come to realize the pedestrian gate is not even accessible if the car gate is open. It would still be nice to have someone open the first-grade hallway door like they did all year last year. Thank you so much for your support and seeing how reasonable it is to allow kids to enter the Pecan Creek side of the school. Maybe I'll send another email to the superintendent. Maybe you can help email the principal and superintendent as well - strength in numbers, right? Thanks guys.
