AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR ALAN PETER CAYETANO
Dear Senator Cayetano,
We write not as partisans, but as Christians deeply troubled by what we have witnessed.
You often invoke the name of God in public life. You quote Scripture. You speak of prayer and surrender to God. But the name of the Lord must never be used to cover conduct that dishonors Him.
The Bible is not a political prop.Prayer is not a performance.Scripture is not a shield for arrogance, deception, abuse of power, or evasion of accountability.
You declared that the Senate was “under attack,” yet reports later stated that Senate security personnel allegedly fired the first warning shot, with most of the shots reportedly coming from the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms.
You also placed Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa under Senate protection while authorities sought to serve an ICC arrest request, only for him later to disappear from public view while the government continued to recognize the validity of the request.
These are not merely political matters. They are moral matters.
Truth matters.Accountability matters.Justice matters.And invoking God while protecting power from scrutiny grieves many who sincerely follow Christ.
Jesus warned against those who honored God with their lips while their hearts were far from Him.
“To speak the language of faith while acting without humility, honesty, restraint, and justice is not Christian witness — it is religious theater.”
We therefore urge you:
Stop using Scripture as political theater.Stop wrapping questionable conduct in religious language.Stop invoking God while acting in ways that bring confusion and shame to the Christian witness.
If you truly fear God, then humble yourself.
Tell the truth.Submit to accountability.Honor the rule of law.Repent where repentance is needed.
The Filipino people do not need leaders who merely quote the Bible before cameras. We need leaders whose conduct reflects the God they publicly proclaim.
