Canadians & Musicians Against Racism

Many Canadians may not be familiar with the war atrocity propaganda story of the Crucified Canadian Soldier. This “fake news” story was used to incite hatred and recruit people to support the war effort by fighting in WWI and buying victory bonds.  Words such as “avenge them” appear in advertisements featuring the story in Canadian newspapers from WWI.

The Crucified Canadian Soldier also has a dark history of use by Nazis and Holocaust deniers. In WWII the Nazis made propaganda leaflets using the Crucified Canadian Soldier story to disprove the gas chambers (claiming the gas chambers were just another piece of allied propaganda).  Today, the story is popular among Holocaust deniers as an argument to disprove the Holocaust, amongst Neo-Nazis, some criminal organizations in Europe and people with far right views.  Holocaust denial is a form of racism and antisemitism.

There are many great alternative pieces of Canadian war art other than Canada’s Golgotha that can be used to inspire singers and musicians as we drawn on a rich history in this country.

Please sign this petition to say a firm “NO” to the use of the Crucified Canadian Soldier war atrocity propaganda at the Orpheus Choir and to tell your fellow Canadians that you don’t agree with covert forms of racism or the use of material linked to racist extremism in our community.
