Fair licensing for dog walkers in Guernsey

Dog walkers in Guernsey are concerned about the proposed licensing fees for dog walking businesses.

While we support regulation to protect animal welfare, the fees presented are disproportionately high. They risk making responsible, licensed dog walking unaffordable and unsustainable.

Dog walkers provide an essential service for islanders, supporting pet owners, promoting welfare, and contributing to the local economy. These services should be encouraged, not priced out of reach.

We respectfully urge the States Veterinary Authority to:

Reconsider the proposed fees to make them fair and proportionate.

Work with local dog walkers to develop a balanced system that supports high standards without creating unreasonable financial barriers.

Please sign this petition to ask the States Vet to rethink the proposed dog walker licensing fees in Guernsey.

Below is the an outline of the pricing proposal.

The base cost of administering each licence, including interviews, inspections, and processing, will be £150 for a licence to walk one dog at a time. To reflect the scale of operations, an additional £50 would be charged annually for each additional dog included on the licence. For example, a licence to walk two dogs at a time would cost £200 annually, and a licence to walk the maximum of five dogs at a time would cost £350 annually. You are welcome to take as many bookings as you wish each day, there is no set limit.
