Please don't let more people die before something is done about this problem.

Yes we need our bridge it is a wonderful thing BUT please it must be safe to use it, help us please.
Guest#179 Jul 02, 2014, 08:13
People do drive too fast on the bridge.
It wouldn't be cost effective to put a hard shoulder there...the only thing to do would be to have speed cameras on the bridge, and impose heavy fines. When there is a problem there could be a barrier that comes down to stop more traffic coming onto the bridge. This would allow for easier access and rescue vehicles to attend.

Something needs to be done ASAP.
Guest#181 Jul 02, 2014, 08:22
The bridge is looked at as some form of challenge, and should have some kind of traffic calming measures in place, the worse thing that happened with the old bridge was waiting for shipping to pass
Guest#182 Jul 02, 2014, 08:24
It's not so much the bridge but the drivers on the bridge. Maybe speed cameras will work
Guest#183 Jul 02, 2014, 08:24
Please help close this death trap
Guest#184 Jul 02, 2014, 08:26
Accidents on the crossing make you want to use the old route.
Guest#185 Jul 02, 2014, 08:39
How many more deaths do they need to sort this road out !!!!
Guest#186 Jul 02, 2014, 08:39
Needs to be breakdown lane, CCTV and emergency phones. Most of all Police need to be based on the island so that they can get to these people quicker than having to travel from Sittingbourne. More people on the island now need to get services to meet the demand.

This Bridge is dangerous. It needs lights and other preventative measures. The Council know all this and do nothing
Guest#188 Jul 02, 2014, 08:42
The bridge needs lights on and reduce speed limit to at least 50mph!! And speed cameras to, as like most other bridges are reduced speed limit this seems to be the only bridge that is still 70mph!!
Guest#190 Jul 02, 2014, 08:45
Every accident on that bridge to date has been driver error, we need a reduced maximum speed limit enforced by cameras, one on entering the bridge, one at the peek and one on the exit, at either side of the bridge we need traffic signs to warn of hazards such as fog or high cross winds and perhaps distance markings on the road surface of the bridge (keep 2 markings away from the vehicle in front).
Just remember that whilst all of these things would make the bridge safer, there will always be dangerous drivers who will disregard the measures.
I agree there should be heavier fines for those disregarding safety measures on a bridge.

The Sheppey Crossing is not safe for any motorists. The fact that no action on safety was made after the pile up last year is an utter disgrace! Something needs to be done before thiss happens again :(
Guest#194 Jul 02, 2014, 09:01
why didn't they make a tunnel!!!
Guest#195 Jul 02, 2014, 09:08
First a massive pile up where there was hundreds of injuries & luckily no one killed. NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT!! Now a poor lady and her young son have been killed on that bridge! It's been a death trap since it opened, bad design! Everything about it is wrong!!
May the 2 people who died rest in peace

Make the Sheppy bridge safe to cross
U would have thought that the pile up on the bridge had taught them something but no it always takes people to be killed for anything to be done this is disgusting
Guest#199 Jul 02, 2014, 09:16
this bridge should have a hard shoulder or layby so when people break down there is somewhere safe for them to go. also a speed camera would tackle speeders. either way just one of these options could save lives.
Guest#200 Jul 02, 2014, 09:17

should have a hard shoulder or layby for people who break down and speed cameras could save lives

How would a tunnel have been any safer. There still would have been no hard shoulder. People would still break down. People would still drive to fast.
Get off your phones, wear your seat belts, pay attention when driving.
