"Europe needs a shared vision for overnight trains"
A good review about the european night train misery:

As a short term measure. airplane fuel should be taxed just like car fuel and subsidies of airports should be stopped. This would render train travel more attractive as compared to other, less ecological means of transport.
as long as we do not have any fair competition, long distance trains will not have a real chance to survive. So, when our elected political representants will repair this system fault by forcing all airlines to pay standart taxes on flight fuel ( F 40 etc ) ? Also it is absolute nessessary to check european wide smaller airfields on their ROI, resp. operating without any govermental subsidising.
If this would have been done about 10 years ago, we would ride much more comfortable trains as we do wright now, because all those € 1 companies as Ryan Air, Easyjet etc. etc would not have been survived.
Thanxs to the Gods that at least Russia ( RZD ) goes a different way with it´s almost direct train from Moskva Bjelorusskaya to Paris Gare du Est.

It is a very important train for cyclists and their bicycles
Hopefully the night services will remain or come back. We travelled from the Netherlands to Copenhagen by night-train. As long as the trip during the day takes so much time because of the large detour and/or ferry, its definitely the best way to go there. When faster day-services appear (for example because of a new Fehrmarn belt bridge) it's more logical that night trains will dissapear, although I will regret.
Of course! I want many coming generations to be able to live on the Earth!!
As a professional in cycle tourism in Scandinavia, I can not stress the importance of this night train enough. It is a frequently used connections by cycle tourists to and from Scandinavia and of utmost importance for the industry. Stopping this line would seriously affect the development of cycle tourism in Danmark and southern Sweden.
bike+train
also, these long-distance trains are the only ones to take bicycles. Night trains from Brussels have already been dropped years ago in favour of high speed and it makes international bicycle travel almost impossible.
