From Horse and Carriage to E-rickshaw - Nassau, Bahamas

Horse-drawn carriage are out-dated, cruel, and unnecessary.
It is time to stop the abuse!

STOP THE CRUELTY!!

Because animals are supposed to be taken care of !!!

Because these animals deserve freedom and tranquility. NOT death from starvation for food, water and oxygen instead of dying from heat exhaustion and breathing auto exhaust (carbon monoxide) BECAUSE A TOURIST AND THE #TOURISMINDUSTRY needs business. If the tourists really knew what happened with the horses behind the street (stage) they wouldn't ride them. FOR THE PROFITS OF THE GREEDY OLD MEN THAT HAVE NO CONCERN FOR THE LIFE AND LOVE OF A HORSE. APPALLING AS TO WHAT LENGTHS SOME PEOPLE WILL GO THROUGH TO MAKE A BUCK. THE TOURISM INDUSTRY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES AND THOSE WHO RUN THESE HORSES TO DEATH IN THE STREETS.

The horses should never have been allowed on the
streets along with motor vehicles. It is not difficult to see the torture these animals are subjected to with the thick toxic fumes and heat, horns blasting, buses, trucks and cars weaving in and out to get out of their way. Horrible life. It is so pathetic

Time for this to end!

I am beyond sick of seeing those poor, malnourished horses try to drag tourists around. Horse and carriages should be abolished, and the horses should be placed in a good place to live out what's left of their days in dignity and rest.

I don't support animal neglect and cruelty. Bay Street is no longer suitable for the horse and carriage. Underfed and not properly cared for, carriages in disrepair, bumper to bumper traffic in scorching heat, insensitive drivers. This "tourist attraction" reflects poorly on The Bahamas. It's outdated and cruel, it has to stop.

It sickens me to see the ribs of these horses jutting out as they struggle to pull carriages through the streets of Nassau. They are truly beasts of burden and not particularly cared for beasts. As an animal lover and animal advocate I urge you to put an end to this awful practice in The Bahamas.

We simply have got to start thinking of what we are doing to our living creatures and how the world is beginning to view that as a part of who we are - cruel and indifferent to life and suffering.

The Bahamas is getting a very bad name when it comes to animal welfare, better do to remedy this before it's too late...

Horses need to be treated well, not made to work in hot unsafe conditions. There are alternate ways to have tourists see the city.

I want the abuse to stop for the poor horses. They are in really
poor shape, skinny, hooves look terrible, old, their spirit is completely gone. Please stop this animal abuse. I can not believe all the people that see this and do nothing about it! Looks bad for the people in the Bahamas.
