Ban Tail Docking on Dogs in Ireland

To allow such antiquated practices is only indicative of a country proceeding to move backwards, back to the dark ages. Feeding ignorance and lack of education is completely contradictive to progress. Its absolutely shameful that this archaic practice is up for discussion and only reflects the downward spiral of a nation of people completely lacking in empathy and intelligence!

As a professional dog groomer I have seen many cases of infection and further medical amputation after "breeders" have mutilated pups and complications have arisen. No responsible breeder would ever dock a tail. It is barbaric and outdated and there is no reason for it. Ban it outright!

The Government claim that this practice may only be carried out by 'trained" persons. Please could the Government confirm who qualifies as a trained person and what training/qualification is needed to carry out this practice please?

When we got our Yorkie pup 3 years ago I couldn't believe when I got her home that her tail had been docked. She wasn't a pure bred. We were told when buying her that her mother had papers but her father didn't, so she is a mixture between large and a small yorkie parents. So why do something like this to the poor little pup. I think of it every time I groom her. Poor little thing. This person continues to breed them and I presume continue to dock the tails too. Not right!!

this petition stands for the majority of people i would think, the few who think that tail docking and removing of dew claws is in any way right must be of the lowest of the low, to state that this is just plain cruel,unbeleivable in the 21 st century, its a disgrace,dont let it happen!

I have a very happy cocker spaniel with her tail. Can't understand why you'd want to chop their tails off its unnatural, ugly and very old fashioned. If dogs were meant to not have tails, they'd be born that way.

I see no point in this barbaric treatment. To the ones who do find a reason to do it (?!?!?!) :how would you like your ears to be cut,or your nose...????
