Backing onto A249

With my back garden backing onto the a249 nr bobbing the speed at which you can hear vehicles going down that road are rediculous. It's about time the local council did something about it. This is now the 2nd major incident on this bridge and I would hate to think how many other accidents on the A249. When will the Swale council Wake up? When it's one of their own involved ?

The bridge is dangerous and has been since built!!! To many acidents have been made, make it more SAFER!!! Maybe some speed cameras, lights, hard lane for emergencys!! This is getting ridiculouse now.
Guest#81 Jul 01, 2014, 21:59
Too many accidents and fatalities have happened :(
Shannonx#82 Jul 01, 2014, 21:59

Make the bridge more safe!

Lights, speeding cameras, hard shoulder, why aint they on the bridge when its clearly dangerouse! Really? Make it safer.
Guest#83 Jul 01, 2014, 21:59

How many more people/Children need to die before action is taken? If a Government Minister's,or Local Council persons family member is killed on this bridge of ours, maybe our voices will be heard!! It is so sad that a certain percentage of fatalities need to happen before they listen !! When it does not directly effect them, its all down to percentages and figures and budget costings !!
Sickening thoughts, glad i am not a suit in an ivory tower trying to save money and feathering my cap at the expense of innocent peoples lives !! RIP sleep tight those that have to pay the ultimate price for those that take so long to make a decision and implement it.

Hope they sleep well tonight.

Make the sheppey bridge safer for people using it by putting up safety precautions for all to see as far too many accidents and deaths have occurred once too often
Guest#86 Jul 01, 2014, 22:10
Something needs to be done. We've lost two beautiful people today because the broken down car could not pull over somewhere safe.
Guest#87 Jul 01, 2014, 22:11
lighting at night and cut the speed limit down also put cameras on the bridge
Guest#88 Jul 01, 2014, 22:14
The bridge had no lay-by if you breakdown
Guest#89 Jul 01, 2014, 22:17
Keep sheppey safe
Guest#90 Jul 01, 2014, 22:19
Lets make it safe for people who brake down and have young children with them. Do they stay in the car or out on a bery busy road so high up and only a concrete wall between u and the ground. Very hard decision for any parent to make as both just as dangerous options.

The problem with the swale crossing is too many corners were cut by the people in charge of the construction and money lining there pockets,Swale crossing is not up to health and safety standards fact.

Guest#92 Jul 01, 2014, 22:29
My family and friends live on the island, so safety means a lot to us. Please make it safe.
Guest#93 Jul 01, 2014, 22:33
This Bridge has no hard shoulder to pull onto in case of breakdowns and since the 140 pile up crash from last year nothing has been done no speed camera's no lights no nothing why oh why are they not protecting people instead of letting them die.

Please don't be so narrow minded. What do you suggest, everyone slam on their brakes and have another 100 car pile up? Think about it.

Guest#95 Jul 01, 2014, 22:41
Please get something done about this bridge before more lives are lost, 30MPH SPEED LIMIT!!!!!!
Guest#96 Jul 01, 2014, 22:41
Speed cameras and a place of safety in case of breakdown both are needed. RIP the mother and son who tragically lost their lives today and bless the little fella left without his mum xx

Sheppey bridge

The life of an 8 year old boy was carelessly taken on the sheppey bridge today along with his mother , leaving a six year old boy without his mum and brother , heartbreaking , there's been too many accidents on this bridge something needs to be done .
Guest#99 Jul 01, 2014, 22:45
Speed limit needs to be lowered and speed cameras are a.MUST
Misery#100 Jul 01, 2014, 22:46

The bridge is safe, its poor driving that causes accidents.

It's very sad that 2 people have lost their lives today and every one will want to blame some one. The bridge is safe. It is an A road, no A roads have hard shoulders. It does not need lights, at night head lights are good enough. A lot of A roads have no lights. It is a duel carrage way with a 70mph speed limit and does not need to be lowered. If some one is going to speed then lowering the limit is pointless. The only point here i agree on is speed cameras, but only to prevent drivers from going over 70. Forget this as being a bridge and view it as a hill, does Detling have a hard shoulder or lights, No. It does have a 50 speed limit though.

If you want to blame some one, blame poor drivers and poor policing of poor drivers.
