Protect the Elham Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Do they know this site gets regularly flooded? Better be for watertight caravans only!!!

Having watched the BBC4 programme about Motorways and how people protested, be wary of weasel words when politicians and administrators pretend to listen but go ahead and do what they originally wanted.

 Hi-thanks for getting this going. I note that work is continuing at a pace ,despite reassurances from the PCC printed in the Parish Magazine that Shepway has ordered work to stop. Clearly somebody is not in touch with what is actually happening..I saw diggers in action just this afternoon. They will have the whole lot turned to concrete before much longer!

 When the Newsletter went to print Shepway said they had asked the owner to stop works, unfortunately it turned out that this was a 'polite' ask not a formal enforcement. So far the owner feels entitled to carry on works. Until Shepway are able to enforce an injunction or formal Enforcement work will continue on site.

We have lived in Elham for 35 years . Twice we have suffered major flooding issues, due to the sewage system unable to cope with major infiltration of flood water. Make no mistake, this will happen again in the future and the ridiculous decision by Shepway will come back to haunt them.

I suggest the following in this regard: -
The site is in the middle of a famously unspoilt and very beautiful valley which is itself set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Access to the proposed site would constitute a further and highly significant danger - exiting as it would onto a narrow section of an already busy rural traffic route which is increasingly used by double-decker buses and large modern agricultural vehicles and machinery.
The siting of a caravan park would be highly detrimental to the visual amenities of a hitherto protected area.
The proposed site is in a low-lying area which has always been prone to serious deep flooding during heavy rainfall periods.
It is suggested that no additional rating income could possibly justify visual ruination of this part of the Elham Valley.
