I signed this petition as the stables are a land mark & have been situated in Durban Central for years. They are home to fabulous dedicated horses, staff, riders, enthusiasts & the mounted police that service our communities. Its an absolute shame that they should suffer this dreadful fate. I petition the stables to remain where they are, and they can surely use the adjoining sports fields for soccer. . . . I petition that the stables stay & find a sponsor to assist in their upgrading.

I ride horses and live in dbn. Newmarket is a part of life here.

Because there is absolutely no reason for Municipality to do such a thing - and partocularly the one month notice after 100 years is absolutely appalling !!!!

Some things must remain not everything has to be destroyed We do not want another soccer field Save the jobs and horses

I have a horse at the Newmarket Stables, and when I found out that I will have to move him and say goodbye to so many people that have been there to help and support us, is truly heartbreaking. We have enough soccoer clubs, we only have one Stable yard in durban. So many of us will have to either sell our precious horses due to the inconveint distance, or put them down due to, Age. This truly is sad.

Can't we get carte blanche or something in that line involved? Or is the petition done to get their attention?

I detest people without compassion for their fellow man and the environment. Our government looks no further than the end of their corrupt nose when it comes to making a quick buck.

NMS has been around for many years and I personally spend a lot of time there.

We need to protect our farm land and teach our children about horses animals in general and the past .

I believe the stables are a heritage to Durban. My first ever horse encounter was there. Many peoples livelyhoods are on these premises. Save the stables.

The stables have been there forever, the powers that be should listen to the people as isn't South Africa supposed to a democratic country ?
Guest#87 Jul 23, 2015, 04:32
We do not need more stadiums.
Guest#88 Jul 23, 2015, 05:22
Why can't they use our 2010 stadium designed for that purpose.
Guest#89 Jul 23, 2015, 05:40
Because I had the best childhood spent at Newmarket Stables and others should get to experience it!

That is a Heritage site to all of us in Durban. It should be treated as that. Nothing should change and people shouldn't lose there jobs because of greedy developers.

I am so disappointed that this decision has been suddenly forced on the City. Those stables have been in use for many many years and the facility needs to remain.
Guest#93 Jul 23, 2015, 06:26
I cannot believe that once again the correct procedures are not followed all for the sake of lining someone's already overflowing pockets! Shame on the municipality for their lack of respect for life (putting down horses), and concern for the people of Durban (loss of earnings from craft market and stables) citizens the municipality are supposed to serve and who pay their salaries! Unbelievable!
Guest#94 Jul 23, 2015, 06:53
Because it is an income earner for many people that will be unemployed without it.
Guest#95 Jul 23, 2015, 07:00
I signed to try and save the jobs of all the Grooms that will have no place to go when they have to vacate. Also for the poor horses that have to be put down who will not be able to live out their life in peace and safety. Also for the owners of the horses who will have to now find alternative stabling for their animals - it is a Durban landmark

Although no longer a resident of Durban I always pop in there when I visit Durban. The experience is awesome. The stalls are so well presented and the variety and quality of the goods on offer is amazing. I come away from time spent there rejuvenated and inspired as I am a crafter myself.
Guest#97 Jul 23, 2015, 07:13
Because it is the right thing to do.
Debbie#98 Jul 23, 2015, 07:13

Has anyone contacted the DA to get involved?

Guest#99 Jul 23, 2015, 07:14
The spirit of Durban lies in it's sporting facilities in the heart of the city. They must be protected!
Guest#100 Jul 23, 2015, 07:15
Why wipe out anymore History of Durban and deprive children some honest clean activities. And adding onto the unemployment rate.
