I have visited this restuarant many times with friends and family , and I celebrated a landmark birthday there last year , the staff a very amenable and sincere , the food brilliant , and Iam saddened to hear about this .

Have eaten in this wonderful small restaurant twice when through in Edinburgh. The food, atmosphere and friendliness are wonderful----my only regret is that Pomegranate is in Edinburgh not in the West end of Glasgow .Lets hope a Glaswegian one will open some day soon. Nothing about the exterior of Pomegranate was distasteful---it was very pretty .Good luck

I can't believe the blatant racism. If the shop has done wrong then that's one thing, for a local person to go out of their way to ruin a business on racist grounds another!

I see nothing offensive about the sign and have heard good things about the restaurant. Good luck!

A wonderful restaurant and quite shocking that the council are ploughing ahead with a clearly flawed agenda conceived by a small-minded individual. Get your act together Edinburgh Council.

As a local resident I have no idea why this restaurant is being singled out and treated differently. They have lovely signage and compared to many other places near by its one of the most tasteful exteriors on the road. The council should look at the tatty, tacky shops further down the road and consider what those do for the area. Seems like blatant racist to me and I will be disgusted if my council tax money is being used to fund this sort of nonsense!

The 'complaints' from the restaurant's neighbour smack of racism, in my opinion. The Council MUST reverse this insane, illogical decision.
Guest#284 Oct 17, 2013, 11:30
you are punnishing the wrong people
Guest#285 Oct 17, 2013, 12:14
Petty mindedness on all counts and dare one even say racisim? I notice that Tesco just around the corner are not having any issues with their signage. Council, come on, get a grip!
Guest#286 Oct 17, 2013, 15:39
seems unfair how this restaurant is being treated
Guest#287 Oct 17, 2013, 16:01
Come on neighbours..... Support your local businesses. The parliament is offensive looking and you paid for that to be built!!! Pomegranate is a wee business doing harm to no one. Look at real problems in the country and get some perspective :)

Fave restaurant

Guest#289 Oct 17, 2013, 18:09
The council should be supporting businesses like this.
Guest#290 Oct 17, 2013, 18:21
I think its absolutely ddisgusting, racist gits ! Im behind pomegranate all the way.
Guest#291 Oct 17, 2013, 18:34
I find this obsurd.

I lived in Edinburgh for 7years and walked past this restaurant every day to and from work.

I knew this as the Italian and now Pomegranate. I have no understanding of WHY this is such an issue??
Guest#292 Oct 17, 2013, 21:00
It makes me sad that this is what it has come to. I hope common sense prevails and the Council see what a terrible mistake it would be to take the complaint seriously and not take action against the said complainant for what clearly seems like racial discrimination.

Cannot believe the husband of this vile woman works for the planning dept. of Edinburgh City Council. Such a conflict of interest, and he should be sacked accordingly, for using his job for personal gain. I wholeheartedly support this petition as Pomegranate is a popular and valued restaurant which is an integral part of Leith.

Shame on Edinburgh City Council for their lack of common-sense - AGAIN!
Guest#295 Oct 18, 2013, 05:45
I think this is a disgrace what is happening here I would take out a law suite against the person who is complaining for harassment
Guest#296 Oct 18, 2013, 10:47
.
Guest#297 Oct 18, 2013, 12:04
Love this place! They don't deserve this treatment.
Guest#298 Oct 19, 2013, 10:06
If the complaints are based soley on lighting and display boards then what are the council playing at bowing to the complainant. It is not listed area like george street which prevents coloured neon etc and kushis on the same street have a big white neon sign. And of course the playhouse up the road has plenty of signage which is hardly discreet. I suspect this peraon has other motives. Come on edinburgh council - be sensible !
Guest#299 Oct 19, 2013, 15:17
You may not like the place, but while it causes no one actual harm, it is as welcome here as anything else. What are the plaintiffs' actual problems, I wonder?

Really hope the people at Pomegranate pull through with this and remain a part of the rich tapestry of Edinburgh's eateries. I'll probably come and visit sometime!

Great restaurant, the lights and signs are much less an eye sore than other neighbouring restaurants. If it was a restaurant with signs and lights for 20 years before Pomegranate then I don't see why it's now suddenly an issue for the residents.
