Stop the Sale of Playing Fields at Epsom & Ewell High School

We need more doctors, have you tried to get an appointment lately, more schools, have you had a stressful time getting your child into a school of your choice, build these first then think about more housing

Whilst I understand the desire to use this piece of land, albeit that it is used as a sports field and that for which it is designated, housing is the last use it should be put to for a whole host of reasons.
Those reasons include problems with:
• surface water run-off,
• foul sewer capacities,
• months of local services disruption,
• removal of open land and outlook,
• considerable additional congestion to already considerable congestion which is also going to be exacerbated by increasing the places at the two local schools; there is insufficient parking and the school run here has become a nightmare already!
• the local doctors and dental practices are overrun with appointments being as long as 3/4 weeks to get,
• previous development carried out locally has been excessive to the point that quality of life for existing residents is adversely affected,
• will contribute further pollution of the area not least air and of the local brook, litter, etc,
• removal of open space and necessary sports fields, the school appears to have intentionally resisted using the playing field in order to facilitate this sale.
Quite frankly the housing development option is ridiculous.

There are many positive and beneficial uses the land could be put to instead of more housing which seems to stem from greed. How about:
Set the land to allotments which raises some income, benefits local people and the land and is a “green statement”,
Give it over to a youth club,
Give it over to a sports club preferably for local people but even a private members club of some sort,
Lay it out as a local park and gardens for local people to get some air, relax, walk, socialise that will feel part of our community,
How about a public house as those we did have have been flattened for housing! there are no such in our parish/area?
Etc, there are many positive uses the space can be put to if not a playing field but there is nothing positive in putting more houses in this corner of Ewell other than for financial gain!

I am against this development of the new houses on the playing fields. Also as I back on to the large field I am totally opposed to the installation of three all weather foot ball pitches with flood lights, these will shine onto our properties and be a blight on the environment, Also Balls could be kicked into our gardens, we have a greenhouse a few feet from the fence. Also when you start to working on the development it will disturb the rats etc in the stream, which direction will they take. Why have we not been informed of this development the first I knew was in the local paper. I have completed the hard copy of the Feedback form from Epsom & Ewell High School to Becky Allum.

I used to go the this school and nothing was wrong in using that field then, let me tell you nothing has changed, so why can't they use it now.
I am considering inviting national news and media to get involved with this issue.

i would strongly oppose the building of more houses due to insufficient schools in the area and also more traffic congestion

If the school is only in the process of asking permission to sell the land off then why have I seen people walking around the field looking like they are measuring up? I believe the school knows more than we do! I never see any pupils using the courts they already have.

I hate the idea of more green places being turned into houses, with all the traffic congestion that already exists becoming worse. The associated pollution and lack of amenity. There is also not the infrastructure to cope with more houses. Does anyone remember the flooding earlier in the year at Ewell? If more land is built on aren't we adding to this problem? When the last piece of land is built on, when the last fish is taken, what will we eat? Money?

RADIO JACKIE TO HELP

JUST TO ADVISE ALL - Mr & Mrs child have contacted Radio Jackie and discussed the concerns of the selling of the school field (hopefully attracting more support). They were not aware that this was happening and are subsequently contacting the school to see if they are prepared to discuss the matter. They have said that this is very likely to be mentioned on breakfast news (Weds 2nd July). They have also been advised that The Guardian will be taking a photo tomorrow by the field. So, fingers crossed we gain more support!

RADIO JACKIE UPDATE

Just to update everyone - Radio Jackie have tried to contact the school, but have been told that they couldn't discuss the matter. They then quickly followed this by saying that the person they need to speak to isn't there until Friday. Well, how convenient, after the cut-off date! Anyway, Radio Jackie said that they will call again on Friday and they will mention it on the radio on Friday. Not the best result, but worth the try! Not to be defeated, we'll still continue to gain as much support as possible.

Note all the proposed housing, but not showing anything on the Wells estate area..!!
The section about EEHS is section 12 and that it shows the wrong border.

I've also put a couple of links on this petition too, one shows all the procedures of the Governments guide on the sale of school playing fields. In this document there is a lot of interesting information, this includes the requirements and minimum standards of a playing field, and there is no mention of sloped fields being of no use..!! Lastly a link to a website called FIT (Fields In Trust) have a look and see what you think.

Hi - we have all the relevant documents and im pulling them to pieces at the moment - they can only apply to sell a playing field if they have exhausted all other forms of funding which they have not as Sport England have never heard of them - they should have already been contacted by the school - the Sec of State also says no school can propose ideas without first gaining permission which the school has done - there are a lot of things that are not being done correctly by E&EHS...Today we carried out our first traffic survey so if you saw 2 daft people in the rain in Scotts Farm Road that was Steve and myself - we have to carry out 3 surveys at different times of the day in different weather conditions which will be done by the end of next week.  Sonia and Maureen are at this moment in Woking where they are hoping to photocopy the 5 clauses which the Title Deeds of the land show.

Another flyer is due to be delivered to everybody in next couple of days, and we are holding another meeting in Sept after everybody has hopefully been on their hols! I will phone you this evening anyway.

Stop the Sale of E&E High School Playing field

There is already too much traffic in the local roads. Parking of cars in Scot's Farm Rd. causes a problem now. The new flats on Ruxley Church site will cause more congestion.
Couldn't the field be put to some use for the youth for sports facilities?
Already Scott's Farm Rd has bumps on it to slow down the traffic leading to wards Danetree School. The School run times the traffic is terrible with out more buildings in the area.

Awful idea to build more houses /flats in this overcrowded area. Will they be turning Ruxley lane into a dual carriageway to deal with the extra traffic, bearing in mind that most mornings this road has long queues and is often at a standstill and if the school sells off it's land how on earth will it be able to expand to accommodate the extra pupils this build will obviously bring about?
