Users of Glossop Leisure Centre would like to see improvements made so that both pickleball and badminton can be played properly, safely, and without constant disruption. Currently, games on courts 2 and 3 are regularly interrupted by balls coming over from the adjacent court because there is no barrier between them. Additionally, the divider curtain between courts 1 and 2 is damaged beyond repair and not fit for purpose.
Pickleball is growing fast across the UK, while badminton remains one of the most popular indoor sports. Players at GLC are trying to enjoy competitive, fast-paced games, but repeated interruptions break concentration, waste playing time, constitute a health and safety risk, and make the courts feel less fit for purpose. If nothing changes, more players may be discouraged from booking, and the centre risks falling behind the standard that local racket-sport users now expect.
We request the following:
1. The addition of light, portable, stackable divider barriers, as used in many similar leisure centres *
2. The marking of the pickleball 'kitchen line' on all three courts (in a different colour to avoid confusion)
Better court separation would reduce interference between games, and correct markings would make the courts more usable and consistent for the sports being played.
We ask Glossop Leisure Centre to approve and schedule these improvements as soon as possible. These changes would support growing participation, improve the experience for existing players, and help GLC offer courts that match the way people are actually using them.
