Let’s Prioritize Urban Investments That Make Sense — For Ahuntsic and Its Residents

We, the residents of Montreal — particularly those of Ahuntsic-Cartierville — are calling for a moratorium on the Henri-Bourassa redevelopment project, along with a serious reassessment of how public funds are being invested in our borough.

The $30 million project — focused mainly on greening medians and adding bike lanes — has led to two years of loud, invasive construction. It has disrupted traffic, worsened air quality, and made daily life miserable for families in the area.

Meanwhile, our local streets are falling apart: cracked sidewalks, endless potholes, and dangerous intersections with insufficient signage (e.g. Fleury & Saint-Denis). Simple, low-cost safety measures could be implemented immediately.

Worse yet, access to several daycares along Henri-Bourassa has become nearly impossible. The deafening noise, debris, and constant vibrations have made the area unlivable for children, educators, and parents alike.

We are calling for:

  • An immediate reassessment of the Henri-Bourassa project, including a public audit of its impacts, budget, and relevance in the context of Montreal’s real needs.

  • Concrete safety improvements for residents, such as stop signs or high-visibility mirrors at high-risk intersections.

  • A refocus of investments on essential local infrastructure: roads, sidewalks, and reliable public transit.

  • A transparent exploration of more innovative and sustainable alternatives, such as solar-powered public services.

We want a green city — but also a logical, safe, and realistic one, built with Montreal’s unique climate and population in mind.
