PETITION TO STOP DBE GENE IN MAINE COONS IN AUSTRALIA

IMG_70371.jpegThere is a proposal being lodged with ACF and CCCOFA to change the Maine Coon standard to stipulate the following regarding Maine Coons with two blue eyes or from blue eyed lineage.

Please note the current ACF standard regarding blue eyes or odd eyes is written as follows -
BLUE EYES OR ODD EYES ARE ONLY ALLOWED FOR WHITE OR CATS WITH WHITE IN VAN, BI-COLOUR, OR AN UNSPECIFIED AMOUNT OF WHITE .

We are proposing this section be changed to reflect the following

1. Only white cats with two blue eyes will be accepted for registration, all other eye colours allowable inclusive of odd eyes.

2. Vans, bi-colours and unspecified amount of white will be accepted with all eye colours excluding two blue eyes, If odd eyes is present only one blue eye will be accepted.

3. Any cats/kittens with two blue eyes that are not all white in coat colour must have the DBE gene test to specify they do NOT have or carry the DBE (dominant blue eye) gene.

4. Any offspring proposed to be left entire from cats already registered within Australia that have blue eyed cats that are NOT all white in their 8 generation pedigree must have the DBE gene test and be cleared before being registered and bred with.

5. Any cats/kittens that test positive for the DBE gene MUST be desexed and not bred with.

6. Any cats/kittens being transferred from another registry/ state/ country that have blue eyed cats that are not all white on an 8 generation pedigree must be tested for the DBE gene and cleared before being registered.

7. Any cats already registered with ACF or CCCA affiliated councils that have blue eyed non white cats in an 8 generation pedigree will also need to be tested and cleared of DBE  gene.
