Medirest Barnet Hospital Porters working under protest

We are undersigned and we declare as we are Medirest Barnet Hospital Porters, with reference to the recent channge Medirest Barnet Hospital have imposed regarding adding recent job duty dirty linen collection to our job description, consider these new duties to be a fundamental and significant change to our established role and, as such, a breach of my existing contract of employment. We have not given our express consent to these changes.  We will working under protest and we will escalate this issue as formal grievance following the reasons listed below:

- The collection dirty linen duty not belongs to our job description and just added recently without our agreement and our consent.

- Following the meeting was held between GMB Union and Medirest Management and conversation between both of them and after discuss the dirty linen Michael Harris said that the dirty linen collection was did before by ED Porters as volunteers and right now the trust request Medirest ED Porters to include in them job description and  Medirest will get paid for it.

- This job is the Housekeeping and Healthcare Assistant responsibilities. The designated facilities manager handles the overall linen contract, ensuring clean linen is available and that dirty linen is collected, removed, laundered, and returned according to the contract.

- The dirty linen collection in ED was stopped by Medirest Management for more than three months and this is another proof that's is not belong to Medirest ED, AAU and SDEC Porters.

- AAU department have five Bays and each Bay have nurse and Healthcare Assistant, similar like the Wards so in this case the healthcare Assistant its them job responsibilities to collect the dirty linen.

- The job description of the Porters doesn't include the collection dirty linen from Emergency Department, its included collection and transferring linen, and this is belong to Porters Ellis Company job responsibilities.

 -  By the NHS, the nursing staff in the Emergency Department are primarily responsible for used linen is placed in the appropriate container for collection. This is includes making sure the linen handled safely to minimise infection risk. Porters ( Elis Linen's Porters) transport the collective linen to the laundry.

- We request for a meeting with Medirest Management with attendance of our Union Rep to discuss this further,

- We request to get paid for this job if you looking to add to our job description and our GMB Union will negotiate this further with Medirest Management.

- We against any bullying and abuse from The Porters Manager and Supervisor to trying to force and pushing us for accepting this duty without notices and our consent.

Medirest Manager generally cannot add a job duty  to Porters without consultation and agreement, even if a variations clause exists in the ward host's contract. While a variations clause might allow for changes to the contract, it typically requires a fair and reasonable process, including consultation with the affected employee. Adding a new duty without discussion could be seen as a breach of the implied duty of mutual trust and confidence, leading to potential employment tribunal claims
