Safer streets with safer lighting
The above picture is Allen Bell Bridge at 6.15am. One of many bridges with insufficient lighting & unsafe footpaths due to lack of lighting which is hazardous.
We as a community should be able to walk our streets safely, day and night without fear!
Township streets should not be restricted because of the lack of street lighting.
Recently I was approached and stalked by a person in a dark area which left me shaken and afraid. I’ve reported the incident to the police and have brought this upon myself to make positive change for our community.
Benefits of added street lighting would include: 1. walking in restricted areas 2. Identifying bridges a safety hazard for pedestrian and vehicles 3. Pedestrian density areas main streets leading to schools, centres, hospitals, walkways, rest homes, recreation centres etc 4. Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design [CPTED] principles 5. reduced risk of injuries 6. added security for homes and businesses 7. Adding value to areas 8.business for local electricity companies.
As a rate payer I’d like to challenge the Far North District Council to walk our streets and ask if they feel safe?
With your support I’d like to make our streets in our community feel safe again and this is one of the steps of many in making our community safer.
