Sallikkattu: Appeal to UNESCO

Sir, We would Like to bring to your kind attention that few centuries old 'Sallikkattu' the Tamils cultural sports has been banned in Tamil Nadu by India's Supreme Court on ill advise of PETA functioning in a foreign country.
Sallikaatu could be referred to as bull embracing event typically practiced in Tamil Nadu as a part of Pongal celebrations on third day of the four-day Pongal festival. The term 'Sallikattu' is derived from the tamil words 'Salli' and 'Kattu'. Salli refers to gold or silver coins. Kattu means 'tied'. Therefore, combined together it refers to coins being tied to the bulls' horns, which is considered the prize for whoever tames the bull. The bull that wins is used to service numerous cows preserving the native breed. It is renowned as an ancient 'sport', believed to have been practised some 2500 years ago.
And we humbly request you to protect our traditional sport which do not harm the animal but promote self confident and true spirit of sportsmanship amongst participants.
