I’m singing because I am a student at a UK university and I want to practice remote learning until it becomes safe to travel back and forth between my home country and the UK

I’m signing because it is unacceptable to force students to go back in UK during Covid where hundreds of people are dying .

International students and students who live abroad have already been forgotten and jeopardised by the university’s slow decision making. I know several students who missed the last flight home before the decision to cancel summer exams was made and have only just made it home. UoN needs to consider the safety and well-being of its international students during the pandemic and not its own financial interests. Let students learn remotely if they choose to!

Expecting international students to drop everything and travel to the UK as soon as the option becomes available is ridiculous. Even if restrictions lift to allow them to travel the risks to their health, the health of their families, and the health of other students is still going to be high. The government either hasn’t considered or doesn’t care that the cost of travel at last minute notice will severely impact many students, especially as many will be paying rent in the UK for a house they aren’t able to live in. These rules will also mean students may not be able to return home for a long time if restrictions are put back in place which will have an effect on mental well-being for students and their families in a time when everyone needs all the support they can get.

I support this idea and I hope the University of Nottingham will take this into consideration.

This is completely absurd, and makes no sense to require students to return as soon as possible. Surely it is better for students to remain safe and healthy than to return to the uk, potentially falling ill and not being able to see their family again. The descision during the pandemic should be on the student, not the University.

I am signing this petition because international travel in this unprecedented times is extremely unsafe and there is an awfully high risk of getting the virus on my flight which is 13.5h long filled with international travellers from all over the world followed by a stopover at London increasing the risk of catching the virus. I also have skin allergy as part of my medical history and in my first year at Nottingham I got it twice due to the weather difference from my home country and the UK. I am sure I will get it again due to the difference in temperature and this would mean self isolation and I will not be able to attend tutorials anyway. This would also mean getting tested for Covid and other complications. There has also been news of a deadlier second strain of the virus in a few countries and the UK is expected to be hit with it in the winter. This might mean another evacuation of international students back to their home countries or worse being stranded as some of my friends were. Therefore I request International students be given the option of attending tutorials online.
