Help stop the lower speed limits in Auckland.

I don’t believe lowering speed limits is the only solution, and feel while there was “supposed” consultation the outcome was already predetermined. I believe more problems will come…

30kph is Ridculously Slow!!!
And I don't like the fact that Weymouth and Manurewa have been targeted!!
Unless you can provide proof that these areas have a higher accident and death rate than other areas in Auckland.. I suggest a reassessment and recommend a reduction to 40kph.
Have you ever tried driving at 30kph? You might as well get out and jog instead.. its ridiculous!!!

Matilda Hawkins (Auckland, 2023-01-24)

#3

I agree with the subject.

Graham Thomas (Auckland, 2023-01-24)

#4

I do not approve of the slow speeds they will cause more accidents and cause road rage

Dean Thomas (Auckland, 2023-01-24)

#5

Lowering to 30 from 50 will cause more tailgating and road rage, driving at 30 is absolutely pointless, this will achieve nothing but anger. This will also take the police away from actually catching criminals while they spend their time giving out multiable speed fines.

#12

I agree.

Lowering the speed limits is a stupid idea. It will only create irate drivers wanting to get past, which promotes overtaking and dangerous driving. Having a lower speed limit will not contribute to less injuries or death. If anything it will make the situation worse. Great for revenue gathering though....

Lower speed limits are a waste of time and achieve nothing

Garth Anderson (Auckland , 2023-01-25)

Driving 30km/hr down Weymouth road is unnecessary and unrealistic. The people hooning around our roads are still going to drive at high speeds whether the speed is 30 or 50. They are the proble, not the people that were travelling 50 and now have go 30.

Sharon Mackie-Smith (Auckland , 2023-01-26)

#28

30ks is absolutely ridiculous it has already caused multiple road rage incidents that I have witnessed from my house today as I live on 1 of the streets that has changed to 30ks. 30ks is far to slow a push bike on the road flew past me when I was doing 30ks, I hope the police are willing to issue them tickets

Denise Ruawhare (Auckland , 2023-01-26)

#31

I’m signing because 30kms is an absolutely unfair and unreasonable expected speed. I understand slowing down around schools, can this not be regulated with timeframes at the very least as a compromise, like bus lanes, or, the addition of judder bars in these areas. This speed is causing unnecessary road rage from extremely aggressive people. If the intention behind this new speed is to slow down drivers, it is the wrong way to do it, drivers that were breaching the original speed will breach the new speed. All you have done is created dangerous frustration in bulk and put the rest of us at risk.

Faye Wong (Auckland, 2023-01-26)

#34

This is a ridiculous speed.all ready and it only day 1 where I have seen people over take and do the fingers to the driver doing 30ks. This is going to cause more problems in road rage and over taking.

Linda Trembath (Weymouth , 2023-01-26)

Driving 30k is way to slow got abused and held up traffic.

Ana Hall (Auckland , 2023-01-26)

30kph is fricken ridiculous

#42

I disagree with the changing of Speed limits in Weymouth needs to go back to maybe 40km not 30

#46

Lower speed limits are dangerous and cause more congestion

Jacob Burgin (Auckland, 2023-01-27)

#47

The consultation process was not thorough, and the speed limit was dropped in many areas without reason.

The majority of roads in consultation in Viewpoint's report resulted in "NO FEEDBACK", with many others reporting the current speed limit should be kept the same. AT had recommended to reduce the speed limit anyway.

Thomas Lowe (Auckland, 2023-01-27)

#48

Lowering the speed limit to 30kph is ridiculous and it's going to cause more problems and accidents especially due to road rage

Cherie Cossey (Auckland , 2023-01-27)

#49

Lowering the speed limit on Weymouth Rd to 30 is an endangerment because its too slow and causing drivers to have road rage. There are too many cars on Weymouth Rd to have the speed limit to 30.

Rochelle Carelse (Auckland , 2023-01-27)

#50

Changing the speed limit to a crawl won't stop the speedsters who already don't follow the law. It will only make life harder for the law-abiding citizens and make it easier for everyone in an already impoverished area to get fined if they accidentally go over the ridiculous 30 kph speed limit.

Jay Bowen (Auckland, 2023-01-27)

#51

Road Rage on Weymouth road because of this ridiculous speed limit, people are getting yelled at, beeped at and over taken. 30ks on Weymouth Rd is ridiculous, my car took awhile to be able to get to 30ks and remain on 30ks. Feels like my cars about to stop!

Mereana Mafi (Auckland, 2023-01-27)

#52

30 kms an hour is far too slow as it's not a super busy area and people on bikes are now faster....

Jesse Wooding (Auckland, 2023-01-27)

#53

The new 30km speed limits in manurewa are ridiculous! They’re more unsafe now than ever before with road rage becoming a very fast problem, cars passing continuously and for***** sakes a push bike can ride faster. CHANGE IT BACK TO 50km!!!!!

Ceridwen Henare (Auckland, 2023-01-28)

#54

The people who decided to reduce the speed limit don’t even drive these streets ….

Lesley Campbell (Auckland, 2023-01-28)

#55

Reducing the speed limits to 30km in our suburbs will increase travel time & in turn stress everyone out, cause frustration which will lead to road rage & probably more crashes

Kimberly Duron (Auckland, 2023-01-29)

#56

the slower speed limits are going to make the doctors more busy and the mechanics for frustrated

cameron mckinney (auckland, 2023-01-30)

the slower speed wont solve the problems it is meant to. The boy racers wont abide by the limit.

I live on Weymouth Rd, Weymouth and think 30kph is a ridiculous speed to drive on this road, 40kph would be a far more realistic speed and would reduce any possible road rage problems. This morning I was stopped by an unmarked police car, the officer asked me "why are you driving so slow?" (I was travelling at about 35kph so thought I was going to get a speeding ticket) I told him because it was a 30k zone, his reply was that he hadn't seen the speed signs - there are two signs in clear visibility. He also said that he was from Howick so possibly wasn't a local officer but he was very nice about the issue and told me to have a nice day.

Bev Goodall (Auckland, 2023-02-03)

#61

It's ridiculous with how low the speed limits have been decreased to. How about, ensure there are better options for kids and families to cross the roads and have better public transport systems so its accessible for everyone.

Rina Tukula (Auckland, 2023-02-11)

#62

Weymouth Road is a main road with a number of small roads coming off it. Since the reduction of the speed limit to 30 I have noticed a marked increase in traffic congestion along Weymouth Road. The 30 km speed limit is totally impractical, increasing traffic congestion particularly at peak hour times and potentially increasing frustration and accident risk. Where else in Auckland has the speed limit on a Main arterial road being dropped to 30 km? or is it just a South Auckland thing because Council thinks we won't speak out?

Jay Ryan (Weymouth, 2023-02-14)

#63

The new speed limits are causing traffic to use the side roads more and impatient drivers are overtaking at speed far in excess of the original 50km

Christine Walker (Weymouth Auckland , 2023-02-28)

#64

I’m signing this petition because I agree to remove the 30 speed limit on Weymouth road! It’s crazy to go that slow especially when other cars are causing a lot of danger around our streets, over taking buses like transport and school buses , over taking cars! A lot of people are not sticking to the limit anyways and no one has done nothing about it! What a waste of money to put up 30 on our streets and nothing is been done to those that are speeding

Hola Tuliakiono (Auckland, 2023-02-28)

#66

It's causing more danger to drivers following the limit.

Wasting extra time to get to and from work..... We don't get paid for sitting in traffic!!! The lower speed limit has made the morning traffic jams, worse. Including the traffic light on Roscommon and Burundi.

They are not so much of a problem on the internal roads in Manurewa which have had1.86 Million speed bumps installed. Merely due to the fact; you are not able to reach 30km between each speed bump. But! The main arterial routes need to be flowing.

Codie Solomon (Auckland , 2023-03-01)

The 30km speed limit on Weymouth road is dangerous. I spend most of my time looking at my speedo to monitor my speed, instead of looking at the road. My foot is constantly on my brake and there are times when i stare into space as the journey takes so long. Its a straight road with no speed bumps and yet we are forced to travel at a speed limit that has no purpose besides the supposed line of keeping kids safe, which seems reasonable around narrow school roads that have speed bumps but that doesn't apply to weymouth rd. Either put speed bumps in or bring the limit back to 50kph. It does seem that the only reason to have the 30kph limit is to collect revenue, particularly as part of Weymouth rd is still at 50kph and yet thats a busy part with lots of pedestrian crossings and side streets people are trying to get out of.

I’m a truck driver and have to obey the speed limits , so far in the short time of the speed changes iv had countless times were people have overtaken me and risked others lives to get past , not to mention the road rage incidents I have received from other motorists who are honestly fed up with how slow I’m going but I can’t do anything about it I am still a professional driver and have to abide by the rules , in all honesty it’s stupid and going to cause more harm then good so can you please change it back instead of trying to reinvent the wheel thank you

Joshua Pitcher (Weymouth, 2023-03-02)

These 30 kmph speed limits are ridiculous on rds like roscommon, weymouth, mahia, browns rds.

Verna Rogers (Manurewa , 2023-03-02)

#78

30km limit is too slow and very frustrating.

Sonja Elcock (Auckland , 2023-03-03)

#84

It's far too slow, I'm in favour of slower around schools especially in school hours but elsewhere should remain at 50kms. In Manurewa we have more than enough speed bumps to help slow people down

Maria Jenkins (Auckland , 2023-03-12)

#89

Going to cause havoc & road rage. 30km is outragous. Fair enough around school zone's.

Tai Halafihi (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#90

Lowering the speed limit has not done any good. Infact its worse. People drive like idiots.

Nicola Maka-Buisson (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#91

I love down Weymouth Rd, and the new speed limit is crazy slow! If we're doing 30kph surely keep that in front of the schools and shops down here. But surely not on all the streets. The amount of times I've seen angry people overtake, near misses from oncoming traffic is higher than I've ever seen. Plus traffic around the clendon roundabout is beyond thanks to this.

Rita Connell-Waipouri (Auckland , 2023-03-30)

#93

It is too slow

Te Reo Lepou (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#96

I live off Finlayson, this rule is stupid. I get abused, given the fingers over taken daily for doing 30ks. I also own a manual, I'm all for safety but this is ridiculous.

Nga-Raena Leef (Auckland , 2023-03-30)

#101

I think it's a huge drop to 30km & I don't think we should only around schools! I truly think we should stay at 50km

Nena Ngavaine Marsters-tovia (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#102

I've seen the reckless overtaking causing more danger and experienced the road rage and tailgating when trying to adhere to this speed limit. If the reason for this is simply to keep our children safe then we should look more closely at why our children are expected to be on the roads at midnight...or why the limit is necessary even then?!

Pauline Tiriamai (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#104

Its a rediculous limit that has no justification. It will ultimatly cause more accidents

Voi King (Auckland, 2023-03-30)

#110

The speed limit of 30km is too slow and unreasonable for the residents around weymouth who are just trying to get places without feeling paranoid of doing 36km or more over and risk getting a huge ticket or worse

Chels Popata (Auckland , 2023-03-31)

#111

The 30km speed limit is ridiculous, it's actually hard to drive that slow, and causing dangerous driving from individuals who are overtaking those who attempt to drive that slow, its completely impractical and unnecessary!!

Tracey Reneti (Auckland, 2023-03-31)

#112

It doesn't make sense. Why is Weymouth 30km per hour, when school zones and 40km per hour

Amanda Deadman (Auckland, 2023-03-31)

#114

I have to leave the house a hour earlier, 30 k is ridiculous people up your rear end, crawling, it's pathetic

Paula Hills (Auckland, 2023-03-31)

#115

30km along Weymouth Road from the roundabout to the water is too slow, it’s causes congestion when it’s busy
40 would be a better option

Bridget Mackinlay (Auckland, 2023-03-31)

#116

I think 30km is ridiculous, it's just gonna cause longer lines which are already bad enough on Roscommon Rd and road rage

Rozanne Child (Manukau, 2023-04-01)

#119

I feel the 30km speed limit is dangerous on a main road

Malcolm Sinclair (Auckland , 2023-04-02)

#121

I'm opposed to the lowering of the speed limit to 30km from 50km along the roads in Weymouth.

Khrystian Kalolo (Weymouth, 2023-04-02)

#124

30kms is absolutely ridiculous it has caused so much road rage i am scared to do 30kms because of the way other drivers act behind me their behavior is threatening and 30mks is too slow

Denise Ruawhare (Auckland , 2023-04-04)

#127

These reductions in speed limits are going to cause so many problems that they need to stop they are happening all over New Zealand

Alan Birt (Rotorua , 2023-06-11)

Why is it that National or Local Govt follow what is occurring Internationally, in this particular instance, NSW Australia passed similar bi-laws in 2022, and I was wondering if and when NZ Bureaucrats would follow suit - it didn't take long. 15 minute Cities which is an International scheme to influence / dictate policies onto road users, appears to have Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in its portfolio, and like good little politicians being led, they follow. The issues are not our vehicles but in the majority of situations, our roads are to blame for accident levels, poorly designed & or maintained. There doesn't appear to be high levels of accidents in the areas where local bodies have proposed or forced change, and one has to question the validity of these policies. The public should be consulted when there is going to changes of this nature, where changes may have a profound affect on the communities involved.
