Bedankt voor het tekenen van de petitie! We willen met deze mededeling aangeven dat Ahold en de CIW gesprekken voeren over deelname van Ahold aan het Fair Food Programma. We denken dat Ahold vandaag een stap heeft gezet op de weg naar arbeiders-gestuurde sociale verantwoordelijkheid (Worker-led Social Responsibility) in zijn retailketen.

Vandaag hield Ahold zijn Algemene Vergadering van Aandeelhouders in Amsterdam. In zijn openingsspeech refereerde CEO Dick Boer aan onderhandelingen die gaande zijn tussen het Ahold concern en de Coalition of Immokalee Workers over het deelnemen door Ahold aan het Fair Food Programma.

Boer zei: ¨Tijdens deze vergaderingen waren afgevaardigden van de Coalition of Immokalee Workers de afgelopen jaren aanwezig, zoals u weet. Inmiddels kan ik u melden dat we zeer productieve gesprekken gevoerd hebben met CIW. We zullen deze voortzetten in de hoop dat we in de nabije toekomst met een positief bericht naar buiten kunnen treden.¨

Iets later tijdens deze aandeelhoudersvergadering zei CIW-vertegenwoordiger Lucas Benítez:: ¨Mijn naam is Lucas Benítez, en ik vertegenwoordig hier de Coalition of Immokalee Workers en het Fair Food Program, het leidende sociale verantwoordelijkheidsprogramma ter bescherming van mensenrechten in de huidige agrarische aanvoerketens. Ik ben verheugd te kunnen aangeven dat we recentelijk serieuze besprekingen zijn begonnen met vertegenwoordigers van het bedrijf over Ahold´s deelname aan het Fair Food Programma, en we hopen en geloven dat die gesprekken zullen leiden tot een stimulerend nieuw partnerschap in de naaste toekomst, een partnerschap dat, met Ahold´s leiderschap, voordelen biedt aan alle relevante stakeholders in Ahold´s tomaten aanvoerketen.¨     

Wij hopen van harte dat Ahold en CIW snel tot overeenkomst komen. En we houden jullie op de hoogte.

Dear signatories to the petition ¨Call to Ahold ´A responsible retailer listens to its workers´ (NL, ENG)¨,

Thank you for signing the petition! With this communication we want to inform you that Ahold and the CIW are talking about participation of Ahold in the Fair Food Program. We think today Ahold took a step on the road to Worker-led Social Responsibility in its retail chain.

Today Ahold celebrated its Annual General Meeting in Amsterdam. In his opening speech CEO Dick Boer referred to negotiations that are going on between the Ahold corporation and the Coalition of Immokalee Workers about the participation in the Fair Food Program by Ahold.

Boer said: ¨As you know, in recent years, these meetings were attended by representatives of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. Today, I can tell you that we have been engaged in very productive conversations with CIW. We intend to continue those discussions in the hope of announcing something positive in the near future.¨

A little later during the same AGM meeting, CIW representative Lucas Benítez stated: ¨My name is Lucas Benítez, and I am here representing the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Fair Food Program, the leading social responsibility program for protecting human rights in agricultural supply chains today. I am happy to be able to report that we recently entered into serious discussions with company representatives about Ahold joining the Fair Food Program, and we hope and believe that those talks will lead to an exciting new partnership in the near future, one that will, with Ahold´s leadership, benefit all relevant stakeholders in Ahold´s tomato supply chain.¨     

We sincerely hope that Ahold and CIW will reach a final agreement soon. And we´ll keep you updated.
