We have been advised by Break O'Day Council that the Transport Commissioner has approved the speed limit reduction for Falmouth (township & Falmouth Road).

Council will install new 40km/hr speed signs shortly. The new speed limit becomes effective at the time of installation.

Thanks again for your support for this important community initiative.

Progress Report

2022-05-25 06:16:59

The petition has been finalized and was submitted to Break O'Day Council on 19 May 2022.

ln total, 142 unique signatures were obtained, 56 electronically via petitions.net and 87 on paper (a couple of people signed both).

ln some cases two or more people at a property signed the petition (which is fine), so an analysis was also undertaken based on addresses rather than individuals.

ln summary, signatures representing 46 (84% of the 55 properties in Falmouth owned by permanent residents and 56 (63%) of the 89 properties used primarily as shacks or holiday rentals.

Overall, 74% of the occupied properties in Falmouth support this initiative.

We were advised today that a report is being prepared for the next Councillor Workshop (6th June 2022). The workshop is not a formal session of the Council, but provides the opportunity to receive information for discussion only. From that workshop, Council staff will prepare a formal report with a recommendation for endorsement by the Council at the next ordinary meeting of the Council (20 June 2022).

The speed limit change request is straight forward. The signage request (type and placement) is currently being reviewed by a traffic engineer against the current standard and necessary for submission to the Department of State Growth. His recommendations will be included in the report to the Council meeting on June 20.

Please note that road signage must meet current standard and some changes to the proposed signage is likely, but without the loss of intent.

Once Council approves our requests they are sent to State Growth who may take anywhere between a week to a couple of months to respond.

We will let you know how things go with Council and State Growth in due course.

It has been great to see the overwhelming level of support on the community for this and many thanks to Murray Schier and Dave Cannon for making sure everyone had a chance to sign over Easter.

Update

2022-04-14 10:06:32

Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition to reduce the speed limit in Falmouth to 40km/hr.

So far we have gathered around 60 signatures representing 45 properties, which is a great response.  Over Easter Murray Schier will be trying to catch up with some of the property owners we haven't heard back from as yet. Dave Cannon also has a sheet for people who prefer to sign a paper copy.

If you are in Falmouth over Easter, please encourage your neighbours to support this initiative by signing the petition online at https://www.petitions.net/reduce-falmouth-speed-limit

More information can be found at https://islandsoftware.com.au/reduce-falmouth-speed-limit

We are planning to close off the petition after the Easter holiday period and will let you know the outcome.

Thanks again for your support.
