Recap on the presentation of our Petition to Council

2024-05-15 08:51:50

Our petition was tabled at the YR Council Meeting yesterday 15/05/2024.  I spoke to the petition. My presentation was expressed in three parts, the Past, the Present and the Future.  In the Past, I recapped the Council Meeting (Oct 2023) when they decided to pull down our pool without community consultation. In the Present, I listed the pool events that we continue to lose – swimming lessons, aquarobics etc. In the Future, I described how a Rebuild Pool would achieve their Four Strategic Objectives.  And finally, I asked them for a solid commitment to Rebuild Our Pool as a legacy.

My presentation was well received. Cr Cox supported me with a statement comparing the cost of the Rebuild of Kilsyth now to a new Aquatic Centre in Lilydale in about 10 years.

Cr Childs asked that a clause be added to the recommendation.  It was that Cr Cox’s statement (that the pool could be rebuilt for about $6 million) should be substantiated.  However, it was not put to a motion, so I’m not sure of its standing as being accepted.  There were other questions and comments too.

Now, we will continue to gather signatures on our petition.  It can be tabled before the newly elected council sometime after October 2024.  And when the nominees for council begin their campaign, we will ask them how they stand with respect to Rebuilding Our Pool.  If they were watching this meeting, they will be aware of its importance to our community. Please ask everyone in your household, sign the petition.

Our Petition has been submitted - Watch this Space for the date it is tabled at Council Meeting.

Hi Everybody,

Today I submitted our petition to the Yarra Ranges Council at their offices in Lilydale.

At this point it has 1,124 signatures (paper + online).  I expect the Council to notify me about the date of the Council Meeting when it is tabled.

Now is an opportune time to table our petition.

  1. It has a significant number of signatures.
  2. It provides this outgoing Council the opportunity to leave a legacy of a commitment to ‘Rebuild Our Pool’.
  3. It provides the nominees for the incoming Council an opportunity to see what is important to the urban community to garner votes.

Since the online petition is hosted on petitions.net it can continue to gain signatures and be presented to the Council again later.

Regards,

Janis
