NOISE FROM MENLYN PARK OPEN AIR EVENTS

2026-05-03 13:58:44

Good day Petitioners

On Thursday 30th April I submitted the petition electronically to the CoT and will be handing in the hard copy on Wednesday 7th May 2026 at the continuation meeting of Council. It is signed by all 5 councillors whos wards have been badly affected by the noise disturbance.

This weekend we spent time on the gorund to try and make sure there will be minimal disruption form the open air events that menlyn is holding. As yet they have not complied with their consitions of approval which state they may have an open air arena but there needs to be sound barriers to prevent nois e polution. We have again taken this up with the centre and the events organisers.

On Saturday evneign when they did the sound check, we worked on the ground drivign from street to street where we received comlints of the music being loud.  So far today ( Sinday) with the event the compliants have been far less than last time, but definitely still a problem.

The events organisers are tryign to minimis tha impact by halving the number of speackers, lowerin gwhere they are onto the gorund, and puttign up extra tensts around the stage to absorb some of the noise.

The problem is definitely not solved. Menlyn muats comply with the conditions of approvel. Until then we will continue withthe petiton and have already lodge a complaint of non compliance

MEETING HELD WITH MENLYN PARK MANAGEMENT AND THE EVENT ORGANISERS, AND PETITION HANDED TO MENLYN PARK MANAGEMENT

2026-04-02 19:09:18

Good day Petitioners

On Tuesday 31st March 2026 4 ward councillors ( Cllr Lesch, Cllr Muller, Cllr van Heerden and Cllr Basson) met CoT officials and the Menlyn Park management. At the meeting,  our petition was handed over to them. The Centre apologised for the noise on Saturday evening and the meeting held was a successful meeting.

They, and the organisers of the event on Easter Sunday, assured us all that there would not be a repeat. COT officials made it clear that there may not be the noise disturbance. Ever.

As Councillors we gave suggestions on the way forward and the management came with some of their own. We made it clear that the residents could not be expected to accept the noise as a given. It was made celar to them by officials that what occured previously was noise dsitrubance, not even noise polution.

We hope that the way forward is a good and sustainable one.
