Appeal against DEL Transfer

K Kindly do give this due regard and reconsideration · IN

Through this correspondence, we, the undersigned group of Air India A350 pilots, would like to present our concerns regarding the DEL transfer:

Pilot lifestyles and schedules are already stretched and challenging on account of sleep disruption & the cascading effect that has on timely nutrition and physiological-psychological well-being. The one thing that allows anchoring in the face of those obstacles is a homebase that one can return to, to ground and rejuvenate in the company of family, not to mention attend to the many obligatory responsibilities one has. Uprooting us from the bases we have painstakingly cultivated for many years will cause immense personal, social, and financial strain and stress that is pertinently avoidable for the station of operating crew.

We are not unsympathetic to the commercial interest that perhaps motivates drives such as these, but we’d like to make the point that if this was the strategy, then surely, we could have been forewarned before accepting the upgrade to the new fleet? Informed, thought-out decisions would’ve individually been constructed based on the terms we were given.

As it stands, we are given to understand that not all from the other wide body fleets, be it the 777 or the 787 crewmembers have been subject to this draconian decree. One can’t help but question the ethical basis for the imposition on one fleet's crewmembers and the exclusion of the others'. Surely, if cost-cutting is the motivation, it must apply to all crewmembers needing positioning/accommodation in cities outside of their bases? Or better yet, subject no one to the inconvenience & additional tribulation.

We would like to strongly urge you to reconsider this transfer.

As employees who’ve consistently demonstrated a long-standing commitment to our airline, we urge you to weigh the possible consequences of demotivation, dissatisfaction, loss of sense of belonging with company, separation from family leading to strained relationships hampering mental health & loss of trust, against the commercial factors that probably motivate this decision.

We trust you will heed these concerns and give due reconsideration based on the points made above. Kindly provide us with an opportunity to have a joint meeting with representatives of both HR and OPS to make our case, within the next week, please. We shall await your acknowledgment of our correspondence through official email and the grant of an appointment at a convenient and suitable time, at the earliest.

From,
Air India A350 Pilots intimated of DEL Transfer
