PETITION TO THE LOCAL COUNCIL REGARDING EXCESSIVE NOISE FROM A CARPENTRY WORKSHOP

We, the undersigned residents, respectfully submit this petition to raise serious concerns about the operation of a carpentry workshop located at:

UNIT 20A, TW3 1UA

The business operates in the immediate vicinity of residential properties and generates persistent, excessive noise throughout the week, including frequent disturbances during weekends. The level of noise significantly disrupts daily life and has made it extremely difficult for residents to enjoy their homes in peace.

The constant sound of machinery constitutes a clear interference with residents’ right to quiet enjoyment of their property. In particular, this situation may fall under statutory nuisance provisions as outlined in:

• Section 79 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which defines noise emitted from premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance as a statutory nuisance.

• Section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which empowers local authorities to take action where such nuisance is identified.

• Additionally, this ongoing disturbance may conflict with protections under common law relating to nuisance and interference with the enjoyment of land.

Due to the severity of the noise, residents are often unable to use their own gardens or open windows without experiencing significant discomfort. This has had a direct negative impact on wellbeing, including stress and reduced quality of life.

We wish to emphasise that this matter has already been reported to the local council. However, we now seek broader community support to strengthen our case and urge the council to take decisive action.

We respectfully request that the council:

1. Investigate the activities at the above address as a matter of urgency.

2. Enforce appropriate measures to eliminate or significantly reduce the noise.

3. Consider revoking permission or banning the operation of this business in a residential setting if compliance cannot be achieved.

Our goal is to restore peace, safety, and a reasonable standard of living in our neighbourhood.

We ask fellow residents to support this petition so that, together, we can bring about meaningful change and reclaim the quiet enjoyment of our homes.
