Dress Code at Maumelle Middle Sc

Maumelle Middle School has implemented a new dress code that requires shorts and skirts to be knee length for boys and girls. To my knowledge, this is the only middle school in the district with this rule. To be specific, the rule for those schools is mid thigh. Many parents and students have expressed frustration with this rule which makes it impossible for some to even wear shorts or skirts because they would have to purchase them. It's 100 plus degrees outside and a lot of students ride the bus without AC, expecting them to wear jeans or leggings if they do not have "appropriate shorts" is not acceptable. At the church we attend the rule is not this strict.

One parent wrote:

Thier issues are: 

A:the length of shorts/skirts. Antiquated.
B: the drastic change in the dress code being sent out on a Sunday night a week after school starts after parents have already purchased clothing based on school website.
C: the heat index is over 100 this week and in order to be in compliance she will be on a non air conditioned school bus for roughly 45 minutes in jeans and a mask. It’s a safety concern.
