Help Protect the Home of the UK's Longest-Running Labyrinth Walk

The University of Dundee is currently consulting on a series of significant cost-saving measures, including the loss of the staff in its Chaplaincy Centre, placing the future of this remarkable building in doubt.

For over fifty years, the Chaplaincy has been much more than a university building – it has been a place of welcome, support, community and culture for students, staff and the wider city.

It is also home to the UK's longest-running regular labyrinth walk offered by an institution.

The University has offered labyrinth walks since 1998 without interruption (even during Covid pandemic, walks continued online). Over the years they have become a valued source of peace, reflection and wellbeing for countless people.

A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no wrong turns, no dead ends.  It’s not a race or a puzzle.  Walking the winding path lets you slow down, reflect, find calm and work through life's challenges. For many, it has become an important part of their wellbeing, and deeply healing.

The Dundee labyrinth walks have always been free, open to everyone, and offered without agenda. Whether you are religious, spiritual, atheist or simply curious, you are welcome. What matters is that people have access to a safe, peaceful space where they can pause, reflect and reconnect with themselves.

If the Chaplaincy building is lost, this unique tradition could disappear with it.

So we are asking for your support:

  • If you have walked the Dundee Labyrinth, please use this petition to share a few words about what the labyrinth and the Chaplaincy have meant to you. Your personal experience could help others understand why these spaces matter.

  • Or if you are part of the worldwide labyrinth community, please use the petition to explain why labyrinth walking is such a valuable wellbeing practice. Your voice can help those unfamiliar with labyrinths appreciate their importance.

Please share this appeal with friends, family, colleagues and anyone who may be able to help. The petition closes on 15 July 2026, so every signature and every share really does matter.

Together, we can help ensure this remarkable place continues to welcome and support people for years to come.  Thank you.
