Petition or Submission - Respond to Utility Overreach

Petition Goals

• Without customer consent, electric rate increases cannot outpace inflation.
• Authority to implement onsite energy independence is returned to property owners.
• Natural monopolies have no authority to compel customer retention.

Economic liberty, free association, and private property is foundational to the U.S. Constitution. The 5th and 14th Amendments protect individuals from unjust government or corporate control over their economic choices and property.

We, the undersigned, petition the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the United States Congress to ensure liberty is returned to the citizenry by ensuring:

1. Net electric billing increases shall not exceed inflation without consent via direct, verifiable customer vote, wherein the majority of affected customers grant approval. Natural monopolies must not use their protection from anti-trust laws to impose extra-inflationary increases on captive customers in the absence of utility competition.
2. No company shall have authority to restrict or limit property owners from utilizing onsite National Electric Code (NEC) compliant energy supply or storage systems.
3. Utility customers shall be at liberty to cancel any utility service existing on property they own, provided their property is not occupied by a tenant.
