Better Edenvale calls on the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) to urgently fix the dangerous potholes, water leaks and damaged roads in Edenvale. We demand that the following repairs are undertaken urgently:

  • The major water leak and potholes on 10th Street, in particular the huge, deep and extremely hazardous pothole and water leak at the corner of 10th Street and 4th Avenue.
  • The unsafe hole that has been left open by the municipality on the side of Van Riebeeck Avenue (at the 2nd Street intersection) for months. When underground infrastructure is fixed by the CoE, the municipality is obligated to fully repair the road surface without delay so that road users are not endangered. Our streets should be safe for everyone.
  • The potholes and increasing road deterioration on 5th Avenue, most importantly, the severely damaged road surface on the corner of 5th Avenue and De Wet Street, where a deep trench and piles of loose material pose a grave threat to public safety.

Residents, pedestrians, cyclists, schoolchildren, motorists and elderly community members are being placed at daily risk. The potholes and deteriorating road surfaces are damaging vehicles, creating traffic hazards, making roads impassable and increasing the risk of accidents. When someone is hurt or worse on Edenvale’s deteriorating roads, residents and businesses will rightly question why preventative action was not taken by the CoE when the danger was clearly visible and avoidable. Precious, potable water is also being lost due to water leaks like the one on 10th Street.

Our community deserves safe, functional and properly maintained infrastructure. Sign the petition and help us demand action from the CoE for a safer and better Edenvale.

Together, our voices are stronger.
