Re: Re:

#376: FoxyElvis - Re

Mr. Elvis Aaron Presley was very proud of his contribution to the Memorial Elvis visited the site on 15th August 1965 & placed a 5 foot high wreath there, in the shape of a bell. It had1,177 carnations, one for each man lost in the air-raid on Pearl Harbour,on the 7th December 1941.

Elvis visited the memorial in Hawai`i again, in May 1968.

Elvis gave a benefit concert on the 25th March 1961 at Bloch Arena at the US Navy Base. Elvis & his Father Mr.Vernon Presley bought their own tickets. $64,000 was raised...which pushed the benefit over the top for the necessary funds.

Elvis was bestowed with gratitude & appreciation on behalfof all the Hawaiians for his services in helping to raise the funds needed for the memorial.

In 1980, the National Park Services took control of the USS Arizona Memorial from the US Navy, and they removed the plaque that mentioned Elvis`contribution.

Years later Elvis Fans campaigned for a copy of the Proclamation to be put on display at the Centre. Surely they must know, that without Elvis, there would be NO Arizona Memorial.

Many petitions were circulated, but were ignored.

It has been over forty years; since Elvis`Benefit concert  raised  funds, which allowed this project to begin. Elvis always supported good causes, especially one so patriotic & uncontroversial.

Having seen Elvis in concert many times in Las-Vegas,Long Beach & in Lake Tahoe. I came to know him as a great humanitarian and a proud American.

Elvis had a great Love for Hawai`i  and the Hawaiians , and his personal involement with The USS Arizona Memorial.

During my visit to Honolulu in December 2008, I was dismayed to see that the plaque has not been replaced.

Please restore Elvis`plaque to its rightful place, to honour Elvis`Memory & love for his countrymen.

                                                                                            Ms. Loretta Marie Sanchez  Rodrigues.

                                                                                            Aloha Nui Loa!

Because Elvis is a legend in his time and it still lives today. He funded the money to finish the Arizona. His name should be on it. As a contribution he made to the whole world. Left his love still here for all of us today. With love respect and honor. Put his name back on it.

It's so unjust to remove the name of the one man who raised so much money and awareness of this cause. As for the reasons - prescription means just that. A doctor was in charge. It's not as if they were illegal drugs. ...

I don't believe the bad things that they are saying about him.
Guest#384 Apr 15, 2016, 15:50
Elvis should have never had his name removed in the first place
Guest#385 Apr 16, 2016, 03:10
Because his name should be on there. His movies concerts made tons of money for Hawaii and brought attention to how beautiful Hawaii is which brought travelers there which greatly enriched the economy.

He had his own issues as many do. He did his part for all veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are not supposed to Judge that's God's job. He did not sell drugs. He did not break any laws. God bless America and the world. In Jesus's name Amen

Elvis dedicated his life to helping others and gave to many charities over his lifetime! As a veteran of the USAF I feel his name should definitely be on it! Remember he also served his country by going to the ARMY! How many celebrities would have tried to get out of serving? Not Elvis he did his time with dignity!!!!!!
Guest#392 Apr 17, 2016, 12:00
Because Elvis was a phenomenal Entertainer! I love him and his music! He was a veteran of the Army and I am also a veteran of the USAF during Operation Desert Storm! He is the one who made this memorial possible and should be given credit for it!!!!

Guest#396 Apr 28, 2016, 01:08
This is very upsetting. I've been wanting to visit Pearl. If Elvis's contribution is not mentioned I would have been very upset.
Guest#397 Apr 28, 2016, 18:17
Elvis was a true proud American,he cared enough to give his time to this worthy cause.Elvis was not a bad man he was a ex serviceman who never hurt anyone.
He may have died due to addition to prescribed medication but this should have no effect on his actions in this matter.
