Because I grew up there and it should not be destroyed for a grocery store. Rainbow Foods failed there, Hyvee will too

Please, we don't need to saturate our neighborhood with Hy-Vee or any other grocery chain..we have enough already! Don't destroy a beautiful building that means so much to so many people..this happens way too often in our throw away society.

Because it has been a part of Robbinsdale for as long as I can remember and we loved going to movies there. It is a big part of our growing up .

Why make another grocery store when you have a cub foods less than a mile down the road and up west Broadway on 81 you have another cub foods ! Hy vee is basically setting up for failure . Ribbons dale does not have much historic sight left .. Everyone is turning them into bars and restaurants. Remodel the theatre ... There is no theatre within miles of this location ! Have something different !

I love HyVee but love the Terrace more. I think they could do something more creative that allows for both to exist.

Spent my childhood going to movies there. :) I feel it should be designated historic and restored. Too many cities are just tearing down instead of re-purposing these beautiful and unique buildings for future generations. Brookdale could have been saved as well as numerous buildings in Minneapolis and the surrounding first ring suburbs and towns. Hy-vee DOES NOT need another store in the area. Put a local co-op in the old Rainbow store. That would serve the community better than
Hy-vee's apparant corporate greed.

Hy-Vee has another store 3-4 miles due west of this location. There's a Cub Foods and a Super Value between the two. Rainbow failed at this location. Hy-Vee has become an upscale grocery since entering this market. This is not an upscale neighborhood. Why tear down a great work of architecture to build something that stands a good chance of being vacant itself in 10 years. Better to preserve a vacant masterpiece than build another generic box.

Terrace Theater is way more in line with Robbinsdale's vision and values. Hy-Vee also has two other locations that just went up, one very close by in New Hope. Keeping the Terrace Theater will contribute to the coziness of Robbinsdale.

Want answers

Why hasn't anyone done anything yet with the theatre. Who's going to pay to renovate it? Why not let fresh blood clean up the property and contribute to your tax base?

We used to go to the Terrace Theatre when I was a teenager... great place. would love to see it opened again as a theatre.

I used to live in Crystal, MN and was a regular patron of The Terrace. It's a beautiful theater and should be declared a historical landmark.

 The current owner would not talk with anyone who wanted to rent the theater to re-open it; they wanted to conver it into medical office space.  When that failed, they also refused to discuss selling the theater without also selling the mall next to it.  They also refused to let any preservationists have access to the building so that an assesment could be done to learn what it could cost to restore or repurpose it.  

The Save the Terrace group has only been together for a little over one year, and is working on getting a historic designation, which will open the door for grants,  IN fact, the group was recently awarded a grant to help pay for the historic designation process.  They don't have all of the answers, but the smaller steps need to be made before they can look for developers and financing for the larger renovation.

I went to the a Terrace Theatre a lot as a child. I have many good memories of the place. It would be a shame to it destroyed!
