Теперь становится ясно, что скандал, который преподнесла Латвия к 60-й годовщине Великой Победы над фашизмом, назвав в книге «История Латвии. ХХ век» всемирно известный концлагерь Салапилс «воспитательно-трудовым лагерем», был неслучаен. Тогда эта книга вышла под патронажем президента Вайры Вике-Фрейберги, и многие подумали, что случилось «просто» недоразумение. Ведь в этом лагере у детей выкачивали кровь, они умирали – как его можно назвать «воспитательно-трудовым»? Однако похоже, никакого недоразумения нет. Министерство иностранных дел Латвии выступило с резким осуждением выставки «Угнанное детство: судьбы детей, угнанных на территорию Латвии, 1943 – 1944 годах», действующей в московском Государственном центральном музее современной истории России, как будто не было Саласпилса и тысяч маленьких, но реальных трагедий.

МИД Латвии осудил выставку за «фальсификацию истории и вводящую в заблуждение пропаганду». При этом внешнеполитическое ведомство почему-то утверждает, будто выставка служит интересам людей, которые хотят препятствовать налаживанию отношений между Латвией и Россией. Возникает вопрос: каким образом правда о трагедии, о фашистских концлагерях может воспрепятствовать налаживанию отношений между двумя странами? Только в том случае, если латышская элита оправдывает либо замалчивает преступления фашизма.

Latvian Foreign Ministry condemned the show for "falsification of history and misleading propaganda." For some reason, this foreign ministry claims that the show serves the interests of people who want to prevent the establishment of relations between Latvia and Russia. The question arises: how can the truth about the tragedy of the Nazi concentration camps can prevent the establishment of relations between the two countries? Only if the Latvian elite ignores or justifies crimes of fascism.
