We, the undersigned members of the community, stand together to demand justice for Justine David and accountability for those accused of her murder.
We call on the court to carefully consider the seriousness of the charges, the safety of the community, and the safety of LGBTQI+ and queer people in Paarl and surrounding communities when considering bail.
No family should have to bury their loved one because of violence. No LGBTQI+ person should have to live in fear simply because they are living openly and authentically.
We are asking for justice, accountability and protection. We believe that anyone accused of such a serious crime must be dealt with through the proper legal process, and that the safety of the public and the integrity of the investigation must be protected.
