Petition for Enhanced Security Measures to Safeguard Energy Infrastructure in Germiston and and the removal of the current service provider.

cabletheft1.jpgDear City Manager of the City of Ekurhuleni,

We, the LamDel Residents Association, as the recognised and official RA representing the wards of Germiston as named herein, as well as the residents and businesses of ward 39, ward 35, and surrounding wards, are writing to express our deep concern about the ongoing theft and vandalism of energy infrastructure in our area, particularly at substations and cables.

The LamDel Residents Association has witnessed and reported the repeated theft of cables and infrastructure damage, resulting in prolonged power outages for our community, residents, and businesses. We firmly believe that the current security service provider is not effectively managing the situation, and we request your immediate action to address this issue.

As concerned citizens, we urge the City Manager to take this matter seriously and ensure that sufficient and effective preventative measures are implemented at substations, cables, and across the energy infrastructure grid. This should include early detection systems, alarms, and security personnel. We believe that early detection and proactive and effective monitoring are crucial to curbing criminal activities in the area.

It is unacceptable that the same sections of cable or substations are targeted repeatedly, and urgent action is required to safeguard our community and the energy infrastructure.

Therefore, we petition Dr. Imogen Mashazi, as the City Manager, for the immediate recall and removal of the current service provider and the related contract due to poor service delivery and performance. We urge the City Manager to appoint an alternative service provider, a more effective, and efficient service provider with the ability and solution capable of addressing the challenges affecting our suburbs, our residents, businesses, schools, children's homes, creches, and the community at large.

We kindly request the City Manager's prompt attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from the CoE regarding the action that will be taken to address this issue.

Sincerely,

Jakkie Janse van Vuuren

Chairperson of LamDel Residents Association,

on behalf of the concerned residents of LamDel and surrounding wards.
