Life Can't Wait - Treatment for All with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive, and life-threatening rare disease that daily saps muscle strength and gradually alters the lives of affected children.

DMD doesn't wait. Each day the disease progresses, and what a child can do today, they may not be able to do tomorrow. The loss of strength, mobility, and independence cannot be regained once lost.

There are therapeutic options available for children with DMD that can slow the disease's progression and preserve their cherished abilities – movement, strength, and independence.

With Duchenne muscular dystrophy, time means function. Every lost month can mean lost strength and the lost chance for a child to stay mobile and independent longer. Therefore, children must not wait months or years for a treatment that can offer them a chance to slow disease progression.
This is not a request for privilege. This is a demand for giving children a chance.

We, the undersigned citizens, demand from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and the National Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) to provide timely, continuous, and accessible therapy for all children and young people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy who are medically indicated for it.

WE DEMAND:

• that treatment be available to all DMD patients who are medically indicated;
• that requests for therapy approval be resolved without delay, as time is not on the side of these children;
• that continuous availability of therapy be ensured for all current and future patients meeting the criteria;
• that no child is left waiting while the disease progresses.

We call on all citizens to support this initiative with their signature.
