No to Redeveloping Regents Court on Regents Canal

Hackney Council are proposing to build new housing on the car parking spaces and garages next to Regents Court, along the canal.

As the Regents Court TRA, we represent a close knit community that is worried about the impact a new development will have on our home and livelihood. The same community are coming together to reject proposals and invite you to join us in protecting a site that both forms part of the historical Regents Canal area and provides a space for people to come together.

While we back the building of new homes in the borough, we feel this site is too small for development and we want to protest for the following reasons:

Cars near the playground and green space. The playground, green space and basketball court are a destination for children and parents in the area. Adding another building and more cars would mean it was less safe.

More demand for services in what is already a high density, crowded area. To add another building, and its residents, will mean more people. This will mean more demand for services like doctors’ surgeries and schools.

Overcrowding green space and amenities in an area where space is at a premium. Adding more residents could mean the small playground, basketball court and green space close to the site would be even more crowded.

Parking. This development would decrease parking spaces and add more residents with more cars. In an area where parking is difficult, it would only make it more difficult. It would also be inconvenient for visitors in cars and deliveries.

Loss of light, view and privacy. Those who live across from the potential building may be overlooked by residents in this building, and potentially lose access to daylight. Those living nearby would no longer have the unobstructed view of the canal.

Impact on the environment. A new building alongside a canal will effect the nature that has made its home there, and mean residents in Regents Court and the surrounding estates will have less access to nature and cleaner air within one of the most congested parts of London.

The impact of construction. Access to the proposed site for construction vehicles is unsuitable and only via Marlborough Avenue and Regents Row. HGVs entering and exiting by only one route would be noisy, dusty and potentially dangerous for children.

If you too are against this building, sign our petition. The more signatures we have, the more power we’ll have to make our voices heard.
