We, the undersigned, call on the South African Government, Parliament, and all relevant stakeholders to urgently strengthen and pass the Performers Protection Amendment Bill to protect the rights, dignity, and economic wellbeing of performers across South Africa.
Performers — including actors, musicians, dancers, comedians, voice artists, theatre performers, and other creative professionals — contribute greatly to our culture, economy, and national identity. However, many performers continue to experience exploitation, unfair contracts, lack of financial security, and limited protection when their work generates income.
The creative industry has the potential to create thousands of jobs, especially for young South Africans, but this can only happen when performers are protected and fairly rewarded for their contributions.
