PETITION REGARDING ELECTRICITY - WARD 16

We, the Residents of Kempton Park Extension, Kempton Park X2-4, Allen Grove, Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, and Glen Marais, urgently petition the Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni to prioritize and implement the long-overdue upgrade of our electricity network.

For too long, our communities have endured frequent power failures, unsafe conditions, and inadequate infrastructure that compromise both our quality of life and the growth of our neighbourhoods.

Reliable electricity is not a privilege — it is a basic necessity that every resident deserve. We therefore demand:

• The immediate repair, replacement, and consistent maintenance of all faulty streetlights to ensure the safety and security of our families.
• The implementation of early warning technology to detect and prevent damage or criminal activity targeting our substations and mini substations.
• The protection of all electrical cables, whether underground or mounted on poles, to prevent theft, vandalism, and outages.
• A clear action plan and commitment from the City to maintain and safeguard this essential infrastructure on an ongoing basis, to be provided to the Councillor by the end of October 2025.

Without urgent intervention, our suburbs will continue to face unnecessary risks — including increased crime, compromised safety on dark streets, and avoidable disruptions to daily life.

The residents of these areas will no longer accept neglect. We, the undersigned residents, call on the Mayor and the City of Ekurhuleni to take immediate and decisive action. Our safety, our livelihoods, and our community depend on it.
