We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Pretoria East, demand immediate and decisive action to end the severe pollution of the Moreleta Spruit originating from the Plastic View area.
Uncontrolled waste, sewage, plastics, and refuse from the settlement routinely wash into tributaries feeding the Moreleta Spruit. This toxic runoff contaminates the waterway, harms aquatic ecosystems, poses serious health risks, and degrades a key environmental and recreational asset for our communities.
We demand:
- Immediate and thorough cleanup of all waste and pollutants at the source and in the affected spruit areas.
- Installation of effective barriers and drainage controls to prevent any further runoff into the Moreleta Spruit.
- Strict access control and enforcement to stop illegal dumping and expansion.
- Urgent environmental remediation and long-term rehabilitation of the Moreleta Spruit.
- Regular public reporting on progress until the river is fully protected and restored.
The poisoning of the Moreleta Spruit must cease now. We will not accept further delays.
