Petition to Protect and Preserve St. Joseph County Parks
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of St. Joseph County, strongly oppose the proposed “divestment” of our public parklands, including Cade Lake, Covered Bridge Farm, and Plumb Lake. These parks are invaluable natural and recreational assets that enrich the lives of residents, attract visitors, and contribute to the health, wellness, and economy of our community.
Commissioner Yunker’s proposal to sell off these cherished public spaces—particularly as the Parks Department is set to open a new 5.5-mile trail at Plumb Lake—threatens the integrity of our county’s commitment to environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation, and quality of life.
We urge the St. Joseph County Commission to:
1. Reject any proposals to sell or privatize public parklands.
2. Support continued investment in the development, maintenance, and expansion of our parks.
3. Recognize the long-term benefits of protecting green spaces for future generations.
