Protect Learners at Soqhayisa Senior Seconday School: Call for Urgent Investigation
Learners at Soqhayisa Senior Seconday School in Motherwell. Gqeberha have the right to a safe, respectful and empowering educational environment. Serious allegations of misconduct have been raised against certain staff members, suggesting inappropriate relationships and abuse of authority involving learners. Recently threats were made to the whistle blowers by the accused staff.
Such behavior if proven, is a violation if the South African Council of Educators(SACE) professional code of conduct, as well as the right and human dignity of learners under South African Constitution and the Children's Act.
We, the undersigned parents, guardians, learners and concerned community member call on the Eastern Cape Department of Education and SACE to:
1. Conduct an immediate independent investigation into these allegations.
2 .Ensure protective measures for learners while the investigation is ongoing.
3. Impingement a confidential reporting system for learners to report abuse safely.
4. Take disciplinary and legal action against any staff members found guilty of misconduct.
5. Strengthen the training awareness for both learner's and teachers about professional ethics, sexyal harassment and child protection.
Our learners deserve safety, dignity and respect in the learning environment. We dman swift action to restore trust and protect the future of learners at Soqhayisa Senior Seconday School.
