Restore Primrose Bowling Club & Grant Lease to Mr. Joao De Vasconcelos

For nearly a century, the Primrose Bowling Club has been a vital cornerstone of our community - a cherished space for local residents to gather, socialize, and play bowls. Today, its future hangs in the balance, and we urgently demand action to save it.

We, the undersigned residents and members, formally present the following urgent requests to the Ekurhuleni Municipality:

• Grant the lease to Mr. Joao De Vasconcelos: For three years, we have petitioned for Mr De Vasconcelos to be granted the official lease. Since 2021, he has selflessly looked after the premises. Even after the devastating fire on 23 June 2023, he continued to protect the building, personally funding security and essential repairs out of his own pocket.
• Allocate the Insurance Payout for Repairs: We demand transparency and immediate action regarding the insurance funds allegedly already paid out to the Municipality for the fire damage. These funds must be reinvested directly into repairing the building and resporing the bowling greens.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Our club still has many dedicated members anxiously waiting to return to their sporting home. For three years, our requests for a lease and proper repairs have been ignored, allowing a 100-year-old community asset to languish.

We urge the Ekurhuleni Municipality to honor its duty to the community, support a proven caretaker, and restore the Primrose Bowling Club before this historic landmark is lost forever.
