Ongoing and ever-growing water crisis in Sandton

I'm signing because I pay for a service that is a basic human right and is interrupted constantly. The lack of a continuous water supply is unhygienic and inconveniencing family members on a regular basis. This has to be addressed urgently!

Lynne Dworetzky (Sandton, 2025-07-19)

I’m signing here because me & my household are the affected parties living in Athol.

Water is a basic human right.
It is impossible to run a household / budiness without water.
Payment for serbices is not negotianle even though service delivery is extremely poor.

Kim Deakin (Sandton, 2025-07-19)

Darshana Mistri (Sandown, 2025-07-19)

We are being denied basic and our constitutional rights. We have not had water for 5 days this time and nothing is being done to rectify this disaster.

Michael Jankelowitz (Atholhurst, 2025-07-19)

#39

There is a complete lack of maintenance by Johannesburg Water and they are very slow to repair leaks. Looks like there is a major shortfall in management and technical skills.

Richard Trickett (Johannesburg, 2025-07-19)

#41

I am fed up with the inhumane conditions we are forced to live in. No water for days every other week.

The water crisis has become unbearable! Also, the closed road of Pretoria Avenue is highly inconvenient and seems to have no end or resolution time. Also, Sandton is beginning to look awful, because there are roadworks and holes in many of the roads, and loose bricks all over because when the repairmen open the paving up to repair pipes, they leave the spot in a mess, etc.

Fatima E (Johannesburg, 2025-07-19)

I’m signing because my area, Ward118 Cyrildene, has had water issues for 3 years. Since DEC 2024, we’ve had month long periods of NO water on 3 separate occasions. May to mid June 2025 we had no water, for 1.5 months straight!! Unacceptable

Sandra Amadio (JHB, 2025-07-20)

I’m tired of this crap, we have incompetent people working at JW tired of corruption we need JW money fenced off I have a water leak coming through the tarmac in my street since February I’m tired of reporting it, I even reported it to the mayor didn’t expect he’ll do something about it

Gail Byrne (Johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

#58

Water is right. Incompetence is unacceptable for ratepayers to endure.

Warren Marsden (Johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

#60

I’m signing because as residents of Johannesburg and Sandton in particular can’t continue to live like this when the municipality extorts rates out of us

Bob Maisela (Sandton, 2025-07-20)

#62

Almost every second week we are without water for between 5 to seven days. It's become inhumane! People can't live like this. Water is a basic human right! Can't get hold of Joburg Water by phone. One waits for ages on hold and then gets 'cut off'. I'm sure it's deliberate.

Lara Hughes (Sandton, 2025-07-20)

#63

The lies from jhb water are endless.

Antony Langkilde (Jhb, 2025-07-20)

I am sick and tired of the incompetence by SOEs, they lies they tell us, and the lack of accountability.

Carlos Batista (Morningside, 2025-07-20)

#82

This situation cannot continue. We pay and pay and pay - for nothing. No water, no accountability, no transparency. Johannesburg is on the brink of collapse, and nobody I'm government actually cares.

Claire Liebenberg (Johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

Alan Brown (Johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

I am struggling in morningside

Nerson Harry (Johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

Water crisis in athol / Sandton area

Glenda leather (Sandton, 2025-07-20)

#101

This ongoing water crisis is completely unacceptable. We are regularly enduring five or more days without water every few weeks, pushing our preparedness to its absolute limit. This severely compromises the health and safety of residents, creates unsanitary conditions, and carries significant financial burdens for households and businesses alike. We demand immediate answers and a swift resolution to this critical issue. - An extremely tired & frustrated resident of Morningside

Amber MacDonald (Sandton, 2025-07-20)

#102

there is no service delivery, no timeously kept maintenance and or feedback. Simply no water at times! And days at a time… in the last 8weeks we have had 4 water “outages” and so the delivery of water into suburbs is dire!

shannon dickson (johannesburg, 2025-07-20)

#105

I live in Morningside Sandton and I am one of the affected residents. I went through a complicated surgery in June 2025 and this lead to septic shock and I ended up spending more days in high care. Upon my discharge, I came to a place without water for like 3 days. Fresh out of hospital and I could not bath nor drink water nor take my medication.

2 week’s later, and there is no water for 6 days. I had to evacuate Morningside as I started having a rash and showing signs of infection. This whole situation has impacted my health both physical and financial wise. I am currently residing in a hotel at the South of Joburg. This is not fair and I have no choice but to leave Morningside For my health. Landlords are losing tenants. Nothing is being done regarding the water crisis.

We rarely even have a water truck coming around our area or being notified!

Zwakele Ngeleka (Sandton, 2025-07-20)

I am fed up with no water in Sandton on a regular basis and endless excuses

Kenneth Leibowitz (Johannesburg, 2025-07-21)

I live in Athol and the lack of water constitutes a crime against our collective human rights.

Natan Grayman (Johannesburg, 2025-07-21)

#124

I'm signing because of the water problem that never seems to get fixed. I pay high rates for water and this situation is deplorable

Lynne Katz (Gauteng, 2025-07-21)

#128

I am signing because my household has been directly affected by this poor management of resources. It is against our human rights to live without access to water. Not a single water tanker has been to our road and delivered water. It is disgusting.

Danica Groenewald (Sandown, 2025-07-21)

#130

This situation is unbelievable and defies all words ! Where is the accountability?

DanielA Rhaese (Johannesburg, 2025-07-21)

#136

I have been a resident in Atholhurst for 32 years and have watched and experienced the core services decline to unacceptable levels. Our rates and municipal charges are outrageous and the service delivery totally unacceptable. There needs to be accountability and a plan to improve existing infrastructure before increasing new developments in the area.

Spiros Kavalieratos (Sandton, 2025-07-21)

#141

I am extremely frustrated with the lack of basic services especially water in the area. We are now into 36 hours of no water and no communication from jhb water.

Elaine Peters (Sandton, 2025-07-22)

#147

There is a complete breakdown in all services…. water, sewage, waste, electricity, roads . An absolute disgrace !!!!

Jennefer Matisonn (Johannesburg, 2025-07-23)

#150

As a rate payers and a resident of Sandton the water crisis has become untenable. The communication from JoBurg Water and the City of Johannesburg is nonexistent, which is unacceptable. We have a right to water, since we pay for it, and if water is not available, then communication on the situation and when it will be resolved, is required. From this ongoing water crisis it is evident that the leadership of the City of Johannesburg is not up to the job.

Jill Hagley (Johannesburg, 2025-07-24)

RAJASH SEEJARIM (JOHANNESBURG, 2025-07-27)
