I live in Glen Innés west , my children will be looking for a high school in a number of years , and the current zone setup is inequitable .

My family live in the affected area. The current zoning is suspicious as it seems that some of the local schools deliberately drew their boundary lines around Glen Innes to avoid having to take kids from an area that historically has had less wealth and more social issues.

This prejudice needs to be rectified so that local kids can access the local school(s) that best fit their needs.

Tamaki College, the only local secondary option is 95% Maori/Pacifika and the school culture is aligned very closely with that community. As such, it is not necessarily a good fit for non-Maori/Pacifika kids.

I'm signing because I live in Castledine Crescent. My 5yo attends St Thomas's School. It baffles me that families who live in St John's Park which is further away from the school get automatic entry. Yet we live very close, and have had to gain entry through an out of zone ballot. We will be in the same situation when my child/ren become of age for high school. My child's friends at St Thomas's will mostly be moving onto Selwyn College. We live pretty much equal distance to 3x high schools but only have automatic entry into the lowest performing school. Why should families who live in St John's Park get automatic entry to Selwyn College when they live further away. I really hope that Glen Innes West becomes dual zone to include Selwyn College 🙏

Every child should be able to attend a local school with high educational standards - Tamaki College does not meet that requirement.

This makes sense, children should have access to schools that are local

I’m signing this petition because our children should have a choice and the system needs to address an out of date discriminative policy. We live 1.4kms or 15 mins walk from Selwyn College but are “out of zone” this doesn’t make any sense. Please review the current plans and address the issue and concerns of thousands of families and their children’s future.

I live in that area and it makes total sense to me if our children would be able to enroll at Selwyn College, which is in walkable area, just up the road. No drop-offs etc required.

We are closer to Selwyn College than Tamaki College but are considered “out of zone”. We want to access a quality school in a growth area and seek options for our teenage kids to be part of their area community in and around glen Innes, St. John and st heliers.
