I think it's ridiculous that you're not allowing florists to operate. Most of these operators are individuals working in their homes where they live. The risk of operation is low and they could safely do so. It's a completely tone deaf response from MBIE and outrageous that they say they can't give an answer to this particular industry.

I don’t want flower growing businesses to close down because they are so financially impacted by L4 rules.

I believe contactless delivery of flowers to existing grocery stores is beneficial to both the growers and the public. Spread some joy

Fleur Harding (Surfdale Waiheke, 2021-09-09)

If it's ok for bottle shops and dairies to be open then it's ok for flower growers to do contactless sales of their blooms

Sam Mason (Dannevirke, 2021-09-09)

I don't want to see these businesses go under. It's hard work growing flowers and the pay isn't that great either. Imported flowers are poisoned. Tired of this govt 'forgetting' about the small businesses that hold the country up.

Ingrid Shaw (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

I hate to see people's livelihood and hard work be lost when they can operate safely

I hate seeing the quantity of spring flowers being composted because they are not allowed to be sold. A terrible waste and a loss of income . Contactless sales should be allowed.

Judith Cox (Waiheke Island , 2021-09-09)

I’m a florist and it’s heartbreaking to watch our growers having to dispose of all their beautiful hard work, it also hugely impacts the florists as it will continue to drive up the already hugely inflated prices to purchase.

Bailey Adamson (Auckland , 2021-09-09)

I support the flower growers and all small business owners and feel the rules behind who can trade and who can’t are inconsistent and unfair and contributing to crippling our economy.

As a florist, I rely on our flower farmers and growers to produce these beautiful, local florals for my business.

I’m signing because I believe if bakeries and patisseries, farros , supermarkets can be making their perishable products such as crossaints, sushi, sandwiches and salads for sale it makes no sense to not be allowing flower farmers to do the same. Consistency across this would be appreciated.

Tom Monro (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

I am returning to live in NZ & as a florist, totally support & rely on supply from these growers.

I'm signing for:

1. mental health reasons. Nature has been proven to enhance wellbeing. Flowers need to be available so people in lockdown level 4 can buy a bunch of flowers to brighten their day/house in these tough times.
2. It is the peak flower season and it is an absolute shame to see these flowers go to waste. The growers are suffering big time.

Teresa Manion (Wellington, 2021-09-09)

I'm a flower farmer and while I am not in the Auckland area and so can operate in L2, I am concerned about the effects of L2 on Auckland growers and the flow on effects to our small but growing industry. This situation needs to be addressed urgently.

We are in danger of losing our NZ grown cut flower industry for good.
Growers face immense pressures from land development, increased rates on former agricultural land, higher water charges, electricity and wages and now.... 2020 -2021 lockdowns.

Although our business in Auckland is of course affected by this, and I fully endorse lockdowns and keeping all of NZ healthy, there has to be some long term planning and listening to industries.

Cut flowers are perishable.

They are not a tap you turn off. The growers have to cut them to keep them producing for later. Those cut flowers are being thrown in the compost.
Growers have already paid massive amounts of costs, used infrastructure to grow these blooms and now wasted.
Now that the rest of the country is in level 3 and below, they could be sending blooms to these areas - safely. Via couriers who are already delivering goods to these areas.

Once Nz growers are lost to us, they wont come back. We will be forced to rely on overseas growers - HUGE air miles for flowers, and blooms dipped in round up on arrival to ensure pests are killed. This is not a healthy or environmentally friendly outcome.

It truly is a case of use it or lose it.

Please allow Auckland growers to send flowers out to level 3 and below safely via couriers to support our flower farms.

Thank you

Flowers equal happiness. At a time when we are away from our loved ones, mental health is suffering and we are living a far from normal life, joy is needed and flowers provide this.
In addition, flower growers have spent hours on hours planning, planting and tending to the flowers and they deserve to have their craft appreciated.

Ilona Brooks (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

With contactless delivery there is no risk! Just ordered flowers for daughter in law in Melbourne all florist shops there available.

I don’t see a safety concern that outweighs the devastating implications on these businesses if the policy remains the same.

I think that Flower growers should be able to sell their products during lockdown as flowers are just as essential as people being able to buy chocolate and alcohol.

Helen Burley (New Plymouth, 2021-09-09)

I absolutely agree that growers should be allowed to operate under all current covid levels

The flower industry exists to celebrate, send condolences, show love, and most of all bring happiness to both the everyday and dark times. I would love to see the flower industry compensated or allowed to operate at level four x

Olivia Kelly (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

It’s not right being unable to purchase flowers. These are essential when so very many of us are feeling down. Do the right thing and allow our growers to sell their flowers. We want to support small business. It’s all getting out of hand and ridiculous

Flowers are nice to give and receive during these hard times this world is going through. Flowers maybe small but they can brighten anybody’s day. And support your local people !!

It seems unfair that flowers are the only perishables not allowed during lockdown, and they would be so helpful in proving a much needed mood lift during lockdown.

Tina Kittelty (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

#1967

I feel these are a perishable good which have had a lot of time & effort to grow over a fair period of time. Contactless deliveries should be greatly possible.

Courtney Vickery (Auckland, 2021-09-09)

I can’t bear to see all those flowers going to waste! 😥

Jan Morrison (Royal Oak, 2021-09-09)

#1985

I am 100% behind the growers. It is costing them their livelihoods. Not only do the growers rely on this, their staff, suppliers and many other people in the chain rely on the stock.
It is heart breaking to see your beautiful products being dumped!
Now more than ever we need to spread joy and beauty around our beautiful country.

Liane Anderson (Palmerston North, 2021-09-09)

#1986

I can see that it’s logical for the flower growers to continue working. They have fresh produce just the same as a vege grower. And the waste is absolutely shameful. And the cost to the businesses is crippling for them.

Sue Chitty (Waiuku, 2021-09-09)

#1988

Flowers are an essential item. Our independent, local growers are small businesses being penalized and incurring great losses. Our flower growers are part of a thriving and sustainable economy producing an essential, perishable item.

Please let them trade and keep their businesses going.

I too am a grower and florist.it’s my first year in business and I’m all for buying NZ made but how can we sustain this when we keep getting knocked back. We work hard and this is income for our families it puts bread on the table. This industry allows us to be creative and do what we love which in turn is so good for the soul mind and body. It’s a real kick in the guts.
