Statement of Solidarity and Call for Intervention

Statement of Solidarity and Call for Intervention

We, the students of Afrocybernet and Helpers for Life, stand united in solidarity against the poor and unlawful labour practices demonstrated by both organisations.

Since the termination of our contracts on 31 October 2025, numerous formal and informal requests have been made for the release of our UIF documentation. Despite these repeated efforts, less than half of the more than 300 affected students have received the required documents, leaving many unable to access unemployment benefits to which they are legally entitled.

This ongoing failure reflects a serious disregard for labour laws and the well-being of former employees, many of whom are currently unemployed and financially vulnerable. The delay and lack of communication have caused unnecessary hardship and distress.

We therefore seek to expose these practices and appeal for assistance from relevant authorities, labour organisations, and the public. Our intention is not confrontation, but accountability, justice, and compliance with South African labour legislation.

We call for:

  • The immediate release of all outstanding UIF documentation

  • Transparent communication from both organisations

  • Intervention from the Department of Employment and Labour or relevant oversight bodies

We stand together in pursuit of fairness, dignity, and the protection of workers’ rights.
