Vote and stop the name change.
- Aberdeen to Xamdeboo
- Graaff-Reinet to Robert Sobukwe
From being changed by Parliament.
Vote today. Save the names. Don't let them destroy heritage.
Signing this petition, states that YOU, hereby object to the proposed name of
- Aberdeen to Xamdeboo
- Graaff-Reinet to Robert Sobukwe
for the following reason/s:
HISTORICAL – both Aberdeen and Graaff-Reinet is known globally and are historically known as, and is amongst the oldest towns in South Africa.
TOURISM – both Aberdeen and Graaff-Reinet is known globally and is amongst the oldest towns in South Africa. By changing the name of the town, it makes it difficult for overseas and local tourists to find the town, which could have a great impact on the number of tourists visiting the area.
Including the businesses, guesthouses, restaurants, local attractions and annual events bear testimony to the brand and the impact of losing visitors would have a dire effect on employment in the area.
ECONOMICAL - Any and all costs involved with name changes could be far better spent on uplifting people lives, the area, service delivery and critical infrastructure, which is crumbling under lack of funding.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - At no time was the resident nor public of South Africa presented with this proposal to name changing, which thus is illegal and unconstitutional. Over 80% of residents oppose this change.
This was created by Pastor Michael Hutchinson, supporting Cllr Adriaan van Heerden - VF Plus in against the name changing. DA Cllr E Rieters co-supports this petition against name changing.
